Transfers The Summer Transfer Edging Thread 2025

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Is he all that good really? I can't ever remember seeing him play, so couldn't say but those numbers don't look all that to me.
Did you read all of the numbers, or just goals and assists?
There's a video doing the rounds that shows how many great saves keepers made and other shots hitting the woodwork.

Also, can we look at Sons actual goal involvements last season, IE, in what games did those goals and assists come? I can't remember but he has a history of nice little purple patches then doing fuck all for months.

At this stage, some patience and a level head is required. There is no reason to kneejerk sign a player with urgency - we have a squad good enough to win this weekend's fixture. 1 week left in the transfer window to get it right, and then the international break.

The club have clearly tried (and failed) to move on several players - Confirmed offers for MGW and EZE + reported offers for Paz, Milot, Rodrygo, Savinho.

It is refreshing to see the club moving for quality players - however, once a player (and their agent) knows their quality, the ambition is for a bigger club than Spurs.

History teaches us, if you want a quality player and you are not a pedigree club - you have to overpay on salary and bribe the agent - something Spurs refuses to do.

So, what now? I have the feeling Spurs will keep their powder dry until deadline day.
We need to fully commit to one strategy, at the moment we're neither ambitious enough to go for top signings and see it through, nor creative/imaginative enough to exploit opportunities like out of favour, or exciting potential players.

Instead we spend months yearning after players just out of reach, whilst all of the better players just below that level move elsewhere, leaving our options incredibly limited in the final days.

If the club knows that ultimately we're not gonna have the conviction to see it through with the high level targets, then they need to stop wasting time pretending for 90% of a window.

Being realistic, we say we don't want to sign players if they aren't going to improve the squad, and that's fine, but we have fucking NOTHING in the 10, anyone would be an improvement on that!

The point is it gets exponentially easier the further from the top you get. Leeds can sign ten players in a summer because they’re fishing in the 90th percentile pool of world footballers because that’s the level of footballer that improves their chances of achieving their goals , which is simply to be the 17th best team in the Premier League. At that level, there are a lot more players, who also don’t cost as much, aren’t being competed for by wealthier teams, and are more easily replaceable by the selling club.

A club like us, who I think we all agree can and should be shopping in the 98th percentile pool in order to acquire the level of player that will improve us, is going to have a much more difficult time securing transfers at that level due to scarcity and competition.

With that being said, of course as we sit here a week from the window closing, our business so far this summer is unacceptable. But comparing our business us to that of a club like Leeds is silly.
The top 4 clubs last season have ALL done numerous deals. City did a quite a bit in January which is supposedly more difficult . But the four this summer ins and outs incl loans so far is 83

As I said the transfers are complicated narrative is bullshit . Of course there are outliers like Isak , but Liverpool trying to muscle the Saudi state is never going to be easy.

We have done 13 , although 3 are contract releases . We have only sold 2 players for money Hojberg 17m and Keeley 1m , the rest are loans out which is poor. The issue with us remains quality compared to our rivals. I am assuming everyone knows the incomings .

Edit : of the 83 I have not checked the number of contract releases , but if they all have 3 like us the top 4 have done 71 transfers and loans

We sold Son for 20m as well?

Re Savinho the oracle Hercules has said this over night "don't give up"

Combine this with the athletics update this morning as well

"Tottenham Hotspur’s hopes of convincing Manchester City to contemplate selling them Savinho rest on City signing Rodrygo from Real Madrid. For that to materialise, Rodrygo would need to tell Madrid he wants to go, and The Athletic is not aware of this happening to date.

If that changes, it may open the door to talks between Madrid and City — with Pep Guardiola an admirer of Rodrygo. That, in turn, could provoke a conversation between Spurs and City over Savinho. As things stand, however, this is purely hypothetical. City insist they are not looking to sell Savinho. Therefore, at present, there is no situation for Spurs to pursue and — despite Thomas Frank’s side remaining keen — the Brazil winger is currently on course to remain at the Etihad Stadium."

Yep, this one is over lads. At best it'll be BEK or most likely nothing

Last season their biggest asset though was their ability to win by 1 goal. They're already looking leakier at the back this season and, as you say VVD is a risk. And he's getting older too.
But worried they'll not be able to hold off the scum tbh

It's why their pursuit of more firepower seems skewed to me.

The sad part from my perspective is the fact that we are concerned about their fragility, and not super excited about the threat we pose.

Says too much about us not seeing the kind of squad additions, that we so evidently need.

So The Gooners have a 15 year old playing and winning a Penalty against Leeds, Liverpool have a 16 year old scoring the winner last night, Spurs finally have a manager who is great for improving Young Players and what do we do? We Loan out all of our Younguns!!!! :frankfacepalm:

Think people are getting a bit caught up on signing an out and out 10. An attacking midfielder who's versatile works too! Paqueta is that. He's an 8 or a 10. Similar profile to MGW imo. He's more of a 10 than Sarr is anyway.

I like the idea of paqueta and Mainoo personally. To me they'd be far better options than and out and out 10 like BEK or the Monaco kid.

Yer im not saying paqueta is the guy but it seems as though the profile we want for 10 is big, physical, hardworking with an engine in them rather that the usual stereotypical 10.

Maybe having seen how well the midfield 3 has done especially in pressing frank wants to try keep that element moving forward whilst maybe adding just a little bit more guile. Paqueta could work at 10 in that case but im just not sure if his game is at a high enough level?

Yes. I read them all.

Son's goal involvements are on here, just scroll past the Europa League part and the Premier League part is below that.

Regarding the rest of those stats, is there really a significant difference between the two players on that table?
