Transfers The Summer Transfer Edging Thread 2025

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

If you factor in injuries and lets ignore all the squad players and focus on the first team only.

We've lost Son, Maddison and Kulusvski.
We've signed Kudus and Palhinha.

How have we closed the gap? The squad is still pretty much the same and our season is solely dependent on avoiding an injury crisis.
That is just not an apples for apples comparison though is it by any stretch.

On one side you are taking into account current injuries and on the other side you are not taking into account injuries from last season.

Personally even if we don’t do another bit of business I think we will be a much better side this year. Firstly because we have a better squad, secondly because I think we will manage the players a lot better so we get significantly less injuries and thirdly because we have significantly better coaching team.

We need one attacking player to cover for the injuries we currently have. Anything above that will be a bonus.

Everyone wanted the club to go after top names and marquee signings but can't take the embarrassment when we get rejected by these players

There is one club who can't agree terms with any player. One club
This is what really bother me... we appear to have genuinely tried (yeah, I know, 'we tried' is our annual, tongue-in-cheek transfer window catchphrase), but we clearly have tried, yet there are so many opportunities that we haven't been able to get over the line.

From the get-go, we backed away from Mbeumo when it became clear he only wanted Man Utd. Then we lost out on MGW and Eze, and it looks like our pursuits of Savinho, Paz and Hincapie are over (I don't buy for one second the claim that we were never interested in Hincapie... we just withdrew to safe face once Woolwich entered the frame). Now we're talking with Simons and it's hard to see how that doesn't end up being anything but an Eze 2.0.

We could buy a player and they get injured instantly.... Our two signings definitely make the squad stronger. Plus, if you are using the Maddison and Kulu injuries to say the gap is wider because they are not available, then surely the fact Bentancur is looking fully recovered finally from his inury last season, as is VDV, Odobert and Richarlison means that the GAP from last season is closing too. It HAS to work both ways.

Also, the 'gap' last year was very, very clearly extenuated by the Ange factor, so no one here has a clue what the gap is under Frank right now anyway.
You are the one mentioning the "gap". I'm not because last season as a freak season so shouldn't be used to measure any metrics.

All I'm saying is our season derailed last year once we hit a bad injury crisis. We have not strengthened our squad enough since then. We've added 2 first team players and lost son. And we already have 3 first team players our injured (Maddison, Kulusevski, Udogie). Its fine now with one game a week and no fatigue.

But once the CL kicks off next month and we've a game every 3 days then that's when the test really starts and once the injuries rack up we'll once again see that this squad is not strong enough to compete. Frank will probably do the opposite to Ange and prioritise the league at the expense of europe and the cup competitions so I am confident that our league season will be far better, but we'll have to go out of all the cups early to do that.

The squad isn't better than last season. Its roughly the same. We haven't prepared ourselves for this season. We are 3 more first team players short. A LCB/LB, CAM and LW. Everyone knows this including the club. Don't pretend that we are fine. If we don't sign them then we are fucked. Thats the reality.

It’s almost as if the guy running the club is an imbecile
Or a gooner!!

Maddison is out for the season and the transfer window is still open. Any top club would count Maddison as a player out and know he needs replacing. Why are you covering for this incompetence?

We've started well because we have one game a week and a very decent first team. Ange started the last 2 seasons well when he'd one game a week. The real test comes next month when the CL starts and we've a game every 3 days. Thats when our squad will fall short again and its absolutely amazing to me that you can't see this coming.

Bentancur is not injury-prone - he suffered two horrible injuries due to tackles. Odobert is not injury-prone either.

VDV has recurring hamstring injuries that should not be exacerbated by the way we are currently playing.

Richarlison, I'll give you, but for now, he is injury-free and looking very dangerous indeed.
VDV has not started playing 2 games a week yet and has only played 3 games so far . Bentancur had concussions admittedly.

We seem to be pursuing players who:

1) have openly stated their desire to join another club; or
2) have had it confirmed by their club that they are simply not going to entertain a sale

We've all seen how this alleged Simons interest will go. As soon as Chelsea confirm the departures of Nkunku and Jackson, they'll confirm the arrivals of Simons and Garnacho.

I've maintained since the Eze deal fell away that we won't sign anyone else this window and I stick by that.
We have a 1% chance of getting him. Problem is Levy is too fucking incompetent to realise you have to move quickly with transfers and you cannot keep pissing everyone off with haggling it may win one deal but causes problems with every other deal you need to do with that person.
