Is this Xavi doing an impression of Higgo Higgo ?

Honestly, I'm impressed by the club after saving a seemingly hopeless situation with the MGW and Eze debacles. I thought that the transfer window was fully lost, but somehow we've gotten a player who's at least equivalent to these two.

Definitely arguably?

Posting those radars for different league comparisons, you have to apply you’re own common sense context (which I get isn’t always in big supply in here) but also they are awful in demonstrating similar areas of strength and weakness regardless of the league. It at least lets you see that you’re getting a player who performs well in similar areas and within similar facets of the game?.

Simons radar will probably shrink in the PL, but at least we can see visual, unbiased evidence of strengths and weaknesses in his game etc.

We can see shit all. Go bring up sancho’s data from the Bundesliga. A puppy league compared to what the prem is.

You can use it to see what kind of profile a player is but going ‘look our player is way better due to his data’ is abysmally stupid.

Yes, definitely arguably. As in you can definitely make that argument..

Not tagging the names in here because you know who you are and I'm not gonna give you the satisfaction of your stupid comments up in light so folk as in tradition and for yes, yet another transfer window I'm gonna need you to sign the apology form with your reasoning why you doubted in the first place.

So, all of those stats are percentiles among players in the same league, which is how they get them all to a standard scale like that.

So there's already a degree of comparison from league to league, but that's natural, it's the same considering raw goal totals or whatever.

But those percentiles also bucket players by position, which makes sense because statistics are very different for different position groups.

But that creates completely different comparison sets.

What that graphic is telling you is that Xavi's attacking stats are impressive relative to Joao Palhinha (to pick a Bundesliga midfielder) but Eze's attacking stats are lower compared with Mo Salah.

And those are not a standard group of stats, they have been cherry-picked to maximize the effect.

This honestly goes beyond football, this is a statistical and media literacy thing. That graphic is not, oh, one fact among many to take for what its worth with a grain of salt. That is deliberately manipulated garbage for which engaging with it at all will only lead you further away from the truth.

(None of this is to say that Xavi isn't a better player than Eze or that statistics could push you to that conclusion. It's that the graphic shown is a pure negative in understanding anything about that question.)
