Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

You are wrong. Go and look at how many teams in the Europa League group stage last season are in the Champions League Group stage this season which means they must have been Champions League quality last season to qualify for it this season. The Europa League is a major European trophy. There are no tiers. Only fans of the modern game refer to tiers. I will concede the Conference League is ridiculous but would you call Chelsea a 3rd rate club?

It is a level below the CL, that cannot be in question, surely?

Yes, there are teams that were in Europa last year, CL this year

But there are also the Barca, Madrid, Bayern... of this world which are in the CL year on year and levels above anything in the other competitions.

Yes, it is a major trophy, but also yes - there are tiers/levels/degrees to these things

Tottenham is slap bang in the middle of the most densely populated Jewish areas of the country.
The club has more Jewish fans than any other club in the country, jewish affiliates and a history of jewish owners.

Again, if you hate Solomon for the reasons I suspect, you have no business supporting THFC.

And I'm 100% athiest for the record.
I just don't believe in hating people for such petty reasons.
Is it?

Stamford Hill is a couple of miles away maybe you’re thinking of that. But Tottenham or Haringey itself isn’t particularly densely populated by Jewish people.

Given the choice, I'd have taken 17th and a Europa League win over runners up and nothing 100% if only to get that horrendous, disgusting trophy monkey of our back.

And the fact we did it while being so shit in some ways makes it even sweeter as it winds up gooners even more....They absolutely hate it....They were very good last season and finished with fuck all, we were absolute garbage and finished with a major trophy. It's glorious.

But....People trying to make out it's not a second tier competition are just lying to themselves and making themselves look stupid.
It is what it is. The best 4 or 5 clubs in every major league didn't take part. Even the best teams in countries like Belgium, Czechia, Denmark etc...didn't take part.

We're in the top tier competition this season. It's where every major club wants to be. The Europa League is a second tier, consolation competition for those not good enough for the top tier.

And in the same way the trophy West Ham won is the third tier competition.

Just don't understand why people are pretending otherwise.
It really comes down to how you choose to see things.

We participated in the competition we qualified to participate in. That competition pitched us against teams of a similar rank in their respective leagues and we won it. True, it wasn't the top European competition, and technically, it is second tier, but so, technically, was the UEFA Cup. I know the criteria and formats have changed, but it's no less accurate a statement because of that.

And, who amongst us isn't keen to remind rivals that we were the first English club to win a European trophy? Are we ashamed by the fact it was 'only' the Cup Winners' Cup and that teams like Wigan (2013) , Portsmouth (2008) [had the competition still been running], and Wimbledon (1988) could have won it?

I don't think so.

I maintain that, had we finished 6th or better, there would be little talk about the competition being second tier or about us back-dooring our way into the CL.

Other than teams in Pot 1 and maybe half of Pot 2 in CL, the other half of Pot 2 and Pots 3 and 4 in CL have a lot of teams which either were or are of the same level as the 'average' teams in EL last season and this season.

So its only the teams that get to say the quarter finals of CL who are a level above - not the whole competition.

And even with that, its perfectly possible that a couple, or even several, of the 'top 6 or 8' in CL will get knocked out and not make quarter finals by one of what you might call an 'EL' level team. Just as I recall Spurs beating Real Madrid (and beating them well) at WHL with a young Harry Winks in the team,

fyi, I think you will find Woolwich has almost as many Jewish fans as Spurs.

The 2 clubs are not that far away geographically and its just some of the north London population were badly brought up and follow the wrong club, irrespective of religion

Not sure I agree with your description of the UEFA Cup in years gone by.

Is it second tier just because last year's champions aren't participating?

It's worth being aware that the UEFA Cup, in its heyday, featured more "champions elect" so to speak (i.e. the teams that would go on to win their respective domestic leagues) than did the old European Cup. In other words, more of that season's strongest teams.

WTF is happening in here?

We had an opportunity to all come together and tell JT that his opinion on the Europa trophy is wrong, and to stop banging on about it - but alas.

Nah I won’t let this stand at all.

What you’ve done is built a straw man, basically equating the club’s Jewish affiliations with support for Israel, then going onto imply I don’t like Solomon “for the reasons I suspect” aka being Jewish. First of all that’s a huge accusation, calling me an anti-Semite without actually saying it because you’re too much of a mealy-mouthed coward to actually type it.

Spurs are a historically Jewish club but a British club. I often have a go at Levy but not at all because of his religion, which doesn’t matter at all to me. Anyway, Levy is a British Jew, and we are run by British Jews, not far right lunatics like Netanyahu and Ben Gvir who mow down Palestinian children in the streets on a daily basis, turn millions of people’s homes into rubble, or preside over one of the largest famines in the world right now. Levy never served in the IDF. Solomon (who I don’t even hate, I simply don’t want at my club) has served in it and vocally expresses his support for them.

Supporting Jewish people does not extend unilaterally to supporting Israeli Zionists. There is a difference. Please retract your baseless accusation now, kindly, and stop being obtuse.
So you don't want Solomon for reasons other than his football. Great. Take it to a relevant off-topic thread.

I did italicise the word 'technically', and also acknowledged the different criteria and format.

Thought I'd share this: I have a mate who is Japanese, haven't seen or heard from him for ages until yesterday. He says Kota Takai is one hell of a good player. Hope he settles over here and gets going in the Prem
Takai>Hincapie
Palhinha>Zubimendi
Kudus>Madueke
Simons>Eze
Muani>that one who dumped gf to win nothing
Simple as that, Levy masterpiece and sustainable af:levywhoa:

I listened to a Spurs Show podcast some time ago when the guest was a Jewish Leeds fan who had written a book called (I think) "Does Your Rabbi Know You're Here".

He had asked himself just this question and concluded that the link came from the early 20th century. The biggest Jewish population at that time was in East London and to get to any other London club relatively near you would have to take a bus.

Apparently, this would breach the Jewish Sabbath (Saturday obviously) laws that prohibit the use of combustion engines. However, you could get to N17 on a tram which, being electric, was permissable.

Don't know if that's true but he'd done a load of research (into all sorts of things regarding British Jews and football) so I guess the theory is worthy of consideration.

You've done nothing but praise them, actually. Maybe you should a) think before you post and b) read your content before posting them

And I WISH I was still of school age. Give it a rest you dumbass.

You have an IQ lower than an orange, and that's me being kind.

Go get a job, please. Have a nice day x
Oh I have a job silly boy, grow up with the childish insults ..
I at no point posted anything personal, just commented on the club etc...people like you always get personal when you don't actually want to discuss something on a forum.....hhhhmmmm I wonder what forums were made for 😂😂😂😂

Come on mate, thats stretching a bit.

Fact is, it is a higher calibre competition over all. It is a level above. And the prize, prestige, competitors... all of it supports this.

Which is no attempt at all to denigrate the Europa league. I maintain it is a major trophy, and I certainly dont feel cheapened by the fact its not the CL. Its a great achievement, was an incredible night, the whole run was special.

Its just, as with anything, when youve more than one a hierachy will form - and the CL is the top of the pile

Being objective, the Woolwich squad on paper appears to be better than ours. However, we have done some terrific business in this window. Okay, I am not a fan of Palhinha but the three attackers we bought in are game changers and right now I wouldn't swap our forward options for theirs. Also, they can't play under pressure and they are also saddled with a manager who plays not to lose. They will be good, they should be they have a 250m net spend this window but mark my words. They will not do the double over us this season.
We have brought in some very good players, all 4 of them to be fair..no argument
But it was clear we needed more and we all knew this, so again the club. Not frank he has just arrived but the club have pissed around again
