You are really pi$$ing against the wind on this one cocker...making unfavourable comparisons with rivals is never going to go down well whether accurate or otherwise.

Constant references to rivals can also be seen as a characteristic of suffering from small club mentality.
Not small club mentality...shit chairman mentality acting completely differently to the things that come out of his lying parasite mouth.

We have brought in some very good players, all 4 of them to be fair..no argument
But it was clear we needed more and we all knew this, so again the club. Not frank he has just arrived but the club have pissed around again
I can accept the late arrival of players this window. It infuriates me as to why we can't get these deals done earlier to give these players times to integrate and get up to speed with Frank's ideas. However, I cannot really criticise the quantity. At a push I could complain we didn't get a LB/LCB upgrade but that would be very picky. I am a huge critic of Levy but I can't complain about this window. It's not the disaster you're making it out. Unless of course we finish outside the top five and I will revert to type...

:levylol:

It is a level below the CL, that cannot be in question, surely?

Yes, there are teams that were in Europa last year, CL this year

But there are also the Barca, Madrid, Bayern... of this world which are in the CL year on year and levels above anything in the other competitions.

Yes, it is a major trophy, but also yes - there are tiers/levels/degrees to these things
The CL is more prestigious, no question but people only talk about levels and tiers to suit an argument. It's the same with the Carabao Cup. It's a major trophy, who cares if the big clubs belittle it... I for one would love to win it this season. PCL (Pre Champions League) teams cared massively about the League Cup. It was another chance to play at Wembley and lift silverware. For me, the allure has not worn off and I get super frustrated when we get knocked out fielding a team of reserves and kids.

Hard not to agree with some of that... and let's face it, had Frank bought Gray at Brentford at the time, he'd probably be bringing him with him now to Tottenham, for somewhere nearer £60m...

I think Tel is different as he's had all the hype, but then again, pretty much everyone who's seen him has raved about Gray at Leeds.... He just FEELS like the real deal, and if we play it right, may well become the real deal at Spurs, without having to have spent Seasons at Brentford, Brighton, Palace or whoever to get the move to a 'bigger club'.

I GENUINELY believe Gray & Bergwall will prove to be astute, valuable signings in the Dele mould... and maybe even saving us £100m by not having to go for Wharton NEXT year!

and out of Tel, Odobert or Simons... ONE of them has to stick, surely?

Sorry - but even Spurs would not be daft enough to pay £60m for Gray.
Right now - he could be worth anything from zero to £15m tops.
Bergvall is arguably north of £20m
You win some you loose some.
We have made some very questionable buys lately.
This window is much better. IMO MGW would have been a typical latter day dodgy buy..Paying £60m for a player who no one else wanted - and is therefore worth a lot less the day after we bought him

Gray has to actually do something and have some good games - to reach any sort of value.

The interesting one - is how much is Johnson worth and who would buy him?
This could be his peak value.
But we don't sell players like that, Chelsea get top dollar for Jackson. Taking a view they should upgrade.

We compound our mistakes by persevering. You could call it lack of ambition.

Im not using it in such a way at all. Id love to win basically any cup, I wont be turning my nose up at the Carabao or such.

I think though its as simple as this, would you rather win the CL or Carabao cup?

Thats really the only point there, not to load an argument or something, but at some point there is a pecking order to these things.

And as I said above, thats not to denigrate the Europa win for example (what a night!), its really just to say in the cold light of day not all competitions are created equal.

We did beat Bayern to win the Audi Cup though, so those who cant find joy in the EL title because we only beat lesser teams can always seek comfort in that major trophy.

Mate. Please tone down the "taught a lesson" and "sub-human scum" stuff. I get it's your thing but it shouldn't be your thing 😂

I've edited it accordingly. I guess you don't need that kind of shit, even if certain posters need to be told. I'll tell them in my head and not post it on here.

Given the choice, I'd have taken 17th and a Europa League win over runners up and nothing 100% if only to get that horrendous, disgusting trophy monkey of our back.

And the fact we did it while being so shit in some ways makes it even sweeter as it winds up gooners even more....They absolutely hate it....They were very good last season and finished with fuck all, we were absolute garbage and finished with a major trophy. It's glorious.

But....People trying to make out it's not a second tier competition are just lying to themselves and making themselves look stupid.
It is what it is. The best 4 or 5 clubs in every major league didn't take part. Even the best teams in countries like Belgium, Czechia, Denmark etc...didn't take part.

We're in the top tier competition this season. It's where every major club wants to be. The Europa League is a second tier, consolation competition for those not good enough for the top tier.

And in the same way the trophy West Ham won is the third tier competition.

Just don't understand why people are pretending otherwise.
Tell those of us that were in the stadium in Bilbao that it's a second rate trophy and we'll call you a fool.

Tell those of us (150,000) that were at the trophy parade it's a second rate trophy and you'll again be called a fool.
