Player Xavi Simons

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

I did. It’s still stupid.

There’s no indication he’s THAT talented. Anything can happen in sport but Simon’s isn’t some god level talent and never has been.

He’s a really good, silky footballer and a great signing. There is zero indication he has the baseline level to be one of the best of all time; that’s just land of make believe .
Don't forget that Tel & Odobert are gonna have a Ballon d'Or level season this year.

Man's read it in his bowl of fruit loops. Never fails.

Can he beat an old & weird security guard at coin throwing, though?

Could probably beat MJ at Golf as well

I'm a big NBA fan and to be honest with you, that whole GOAT debate annoys me more often than not. Same in football, same in F1, tennis...

MJ, Kobe, Bron, Steph...Kareem, Wilt, Dr J, Bill Russell, West, Larry Bird, Magic, even Shaq...they could all claim that title cause they were all incredible and dominated.

But it's a whole different ball game (pun intended) from the 60s/70s when the NBA wasn't even shown live to 80s Boston vs Showtime to 90s Bulls to LeBron at his Miami Heat peak to the Splash bros. The game has changed, the rules have changed, the NBA's profile and dimension is something else entirely...

So hard to judge when things aren't equal. To me they were all ridiculously great players who blessed the game and audiences. MJ has that special aura cause of the persona and marketing (thanks Nike) on top of being an outrageous talent, which will always make him the greatest in the eyes of some. Bron is just an extra terrestrial phenomenon...that longevity at the top top level is not human. As a Celtics fan god knows I hated Kobe, but the man was an absolutely unreal baller whose legacy got a bit tarnished by staying in the league 2 or 3 years too long. The young generation don't even know who Sir William Russell was and how legendary he was on & off the court. End of the day I don't give a rat's ass but I bet MJ & Bron do!

Anyway...CR7 >>>> Messi the wee prick 😂

Was with you until the last one.

Peak Bale on his best day was better than both but that WC took Messi over the edge imo

Today Xavi is kept out of the Dutch line-up. It is not easy to break through and become recognized as a major football player. All sorts of forces and pressures work against such young stars.

Perhaps the very most interesting thing about Xavi Simons is how is his Tottenham contract written. I'm sure he and his team demanded for there to be a release clause. Xavi comes from the Barcelona school. His idol is/was Neymar. He will relish a chance to play for Tottenham and in the Champions League. That is a big and bigger stage than PSV and Germany which is where he previously played. But he will dream to play for what are the biggest world clubs. And he could relatively easily be persuaded and swayed to leave. He has already been a bit all over the place. He seems like somebody whose head could easily be turned.

How is that release clause written is an interesting question.

Another interesting question is who could he be compared to. Who could he realistically aspire to become like? Whose career could he realistically emulate. He is unlike Ronaldo and Messi. And he is also unlike Neymar. He's also unlike Salah. It would have to be some sort of a right-footed offensive midfielder with great technique. A scorer and assist-maker. I don't know who from the modern world football could he realistically aspire to be like. Whose numbers in terms of goals/assists could he seek to emulate is a good question. What would be a great success for him at Tottenham?

One player comes to mind, actually. Not from the modern football era. But he played in England and for Tottenham too.

Another interesting question is, what are you talking about him leaving before he's even played a game for us for??....🤷‍♂️
Spurs fan my arse....

Yesterday, Xavi played on the right wing for Netherlands. He is extremely technical and versatile. Can play on the left, on the right and in the middle as a fake, deep Number 9. He was also dropping in into the deep, fake Number 9 spot. And did well. For Netherlands he plays on the right because of Gakpo. Gakpo is a technically much, much more limited player who pretty much always goes to his right foot to find a shot there. Gakpo has seniority over Xavi in the Dutch national team.

Because of a lack of seniority Xavi also doesn't even get many passes in the Dutch national team. They don't play through him much. Consider him as a youngster.
🤦‍♂️
