That was 40 years ago for God's sake

"Rounding up a decade or so".

Man Utd are a prime, modern, example of what a mess you can get into with an overdraft and a bunch of numpties in charge of it.

17th was a crisis to us, only forgiven somewhat by the cup win. They finished only 4 points ahead of us and didn't seem to be too phased by the normality of how far they've sunk

17th was an absolute disaster (in football terms) for a club of our size, with our wealth and our global fanbase. Unforgivable,

That alone justified Levy's dismissal, with or without the European trophy, and is also a key indicator that years of frugal chairmanship and cost cutting and wage butchering was playing havoc with our performance on the pitch.

Had Levy stayed around, I'm pretty certain United would be consistently challenging at the right end before us.

Whichever way you look at it, wether you were Levy in or Levy out, he had become a hugely divisive figure and there's no way those divisions were going to heal with him still at the helm.

Look. You and I are talking amicably for the first time in years....It's no coincidence.

I cannot understand this obsession with Levy , why are people spending so much time talking about him .

I will always remember Levy for;

Taking away club membership, (merchandise discount), from season ticket holders.

Taking away cup matches, one by one, from season ticket entitlement.

Introducing a season ticket waiting list, while increasing the price of season tickets, and reducing the aforementioned benefits of being a THFC season ticket holder, while the THFC Supporters Trust, created under Levy's stewardship, watched from a safe distance and said nothing.

Removing senior citizen concession prices from loyal, long standing THFC supporters, many of whom had endured all of the above.

Introducing Category A,B, and C prices for 'Premier League' home matches.

Exposing all THFC supporters to Stubhub. Some became ticket pimps for the miser; some got ripped off.

Failing to increase the WHL capacity, from around 36,000, for around 18 years, despite the result of the clubs own internal review, during 2001, stating THFC needed to achieve an increase to at least 44,000, along with regular Champions League football, within 5 years.

The sacking of George Graham before an F.A. Cup semi final against Woolwich.

The failure to retain Campbell.

Rivaldo's letter.

The signing of Toda.

The sacking of Hoddle.

The subsequent Pleat caretaker period of 03 / 04.

The sale of Carrick.

The failure to retain Frank Arnesen.

The sacking of Jol.

The sale of Berbatov, Defoe and Keane.

The loan signing of Fraser Campbell.

The Ryan Nelson / Louis Saha window.

The sacking of Harry Redknapp.

The appointment of AVB.

The sale of Bale and Modric.

The 'Magnificent 7'

Franco Baldini.

Paul Mitchell's gardening leave.

The barren Poch transfer windows.

The demolition of WHL.

The sacking of Poch.

The hiring of Jose.

The failed European Superleague debacle.

The failure to appoint Conte.

The hiring and sacking of Nuno.

The cap in hand appointment of Conte.

The failure to sign Milan Skrinier.

The sacking of Conte.

Ange Postecoglu.

The sale of Harry Kane.

The best paid and longest serving Premier League chairman in history.

One of the 250 richest people in the U.K. in 2025.

I've never really shown an interest in Levy prior to THFC.
I was aware he was linked to Mr Byrite but that's a name I havent seen for decades.

Anyway, turns out he's the grandson of Abraham Levy, who first opened a shop selling mens hats.
HIs kids then opened Mr Byrite, a menswear chain, which (and I was today years old when finding this out) it was re-branded Blue Inc in 1997.
I'm of an age where I haven't shopped in Mr Byrite but definitely did in Blue Inc.
Even more of a shocker - Blue Inc is still alive and well. Men's Fashion | Mens Clothing Online Stores in UK
And another thing I learned today/now - Blue Inc is/was called Blue Inc to signify it was for men.
Wouldn't get away with that today, eh.

Have on good authority its Blue inc because the affiliation the family had for Chelsea...let that sink in.

I'm pretty sure a fan from every club in the land could write the same thing about their owners/chairmen.
Most of this was, at the time, in the best interests of the club, some of which is yes, annoying and was incredibly frustrating at the time, but you're dragging the barrel here.
How much would it have cost to increase WHL from 36 to 44k. Would that have been wise when in his head he wanted to build a bigger stadium in it's place.
"Demolition of WHL" Ok so stay in the same stadium and increase to 44 instead of what's there now, you're a lunatic.
There was no stopping the sale of Harry Kane, or Gareth Bale for that matter. failure to retain Campbell? Was he supposed to force him to sign a contract at gunpoint?
There is a lot in what you say but some of this is just making up stuff to make your list look bigger,

Thanks for this post. It’s easy to forget.

After a few too many ciders for ‘birthday week’ & our glorious cup win I forgot to take off the rose tinted specs.

It was all about profit for profits sake. Not profit to be the best football team, despite but what we were sold.

Charrington’s a stand up guy though, right?
