We're getting results, which is nice. Still looks like we need to find another source of reliable goals, but that may come in time as everyone gets more accustomed to the new style and new players.

Still plenty of sloppiness that needs to be drilled out.

Bergvall is looking incredibly promising.

When's the last time we had a fit back line?

I’m getting seriously pissed off with the way we completely vacate the centre of the pitch in buildup, the DM or CB gets the ball and there’s quite literally a 30 x 40 rectangle of open space in front of him. Frank sort it the fuck out, it can’t be solely down to personnel that we have zero passing moves through the centre.

I do trust that he’s not actually thick, and notices this too, and luckily there are pretty easy fixes which I’m sure he’s aware of.

We won which is the first priority .
I have always said who ever came in had to sort the defence out first and foremost , we have goals in us most games , it was defence that was costing us .
Well TF has come in done just that , 1 goal given up in 5 games , can't really be unhappy with that .
Once the defence is solid then we build forward .
Patience is required , I want TF to be here for a while , and if he is I'm confident we will win silverware of some description .

A fortunate goalkeeping error saved us from a draw today. Villarreal were there for the taking. The defense looks good but we need a bit more offense. We really should be beating weak la Liga sides like this, especially at home.

outstanding to be honest, especially considering how many times we were picking the ball out our own net last year with that idiot in charge.

We've been lucky. Our XG and xxpts is pretty shit, we've overscored it by 3.06 goals - more overscore than anyone else in the leaguen- and we've massively underscored our XGA - 3.89 - also more than anyone else in the league.

And that's with a fully fit defence and a proper designated DM/6, a new bunch of forwards who also work harder without the ball, and a much more pragmatic approach.

bournemouth should have had 3.

but facts on the sheet, we've kept 4 clean sheets in 5 games, thats strong stuff and helps build confidence within the group.

I really think people are expecting too much so quickly , TF has had to come in and sort out a poor defensive unit , and has done well so far .
I do wonder if a lot of the players were a bit overawed by it being CL , big occasions for the young ones .
Even TF is feeling his way , I'm sure he's learning a lot about certain players in both the PL and CL .
We just need to be patient , and I know we're football supporters , no such thing as patience .

Good thing goals are more important than expected goals.

I’m not going to say the stats are pointless but they are sure less important than actually scoring goals.

In Frank's press conference after the game that is just about what he did say.

Something I have noticed in the press conferences with Frank. Suddenly, the reporters are asking about strategy and what went on during the match and he gives straight forward answers. Not taking a shot at Postecoglou, but that is a noticeable change from last season. Then the focus was on attitude and philosophy and not as much on tactics and players. I'm enjoying the shift back to the nuts and bolts of how the match played out.

They recognize that he is a pro, not a clown

Unfortunately many of our fans still haven’t realized the difference after all this time.

Also you have to remember the pressers / interviewers knew they could get a rise out of Ange VERY easily.

Ange was always like that even in his interviews even when he was managing the fukkeroos or whatever they're called.

What a great start we’ve had under Frank! A bit more work to do going forward and I don’t think he has found the solution to that left side (Xavi and Spence doesn’t work) but he has us much more defensively solid! 1 goal conceded in 5 games is very good!

Today was one of those games that we normally draw or lose. We never got going, but still kept the opposition to hardly any good chances and managed to hold on. 3 pts is 3 pts

Anyone else notice how Frank was constantly in touch with his staff? Up and down the bench non-stop, giving and taking input, analysing everything.

We’re solid defensively, just short in attack. Frank strikes me as a professional operator, so I’m confident he’ll get it right.

How much of the toothlessness in front of goal against Villarreal was simply poor execution on the players part?

Kudus in particular dribbled himself silly about 5 or 6 times when he had a fairly straightforward pass available that would have created a chance.

Sarr misplaced a pass into Xavi that would have created a potentially dangerous chance inside the 6 yard area.

I’m sure Frank knows what he wants to work on with the fellas but to my eye, it wasn’t so much a tactical issue as it was an execution issue on the players themselves.

In the premier league last season we kept 5 clean sheets, we've already kept 3 so far.

My god we were bad last season defensively and this is the same group of players so fair play to Frank and his coaching staff so far.

Those of us who watched the game did.

According to Maureen the Moaneen though, he and his staff just sat there playing games on their ipads.

Makes you wonder what on earth some of the posters on here were smoking :levylol:
