His biggest skill might just be keeping our back 5 fit because as we saw last year when they play we generally win.

Unfortunately the injuries mounting and lingering in our forward line makes me worry our medical issues are still not over.

Look, I'm not defending Ange here, he was deeply flawed tactically and that possibly contributed to a couple of the injuries, but he was also fucking unlucky - for a start he didn't have any quality to rotate with and once players started getting injured he had garbage to work with.

I don't think Frank's necessarily any better at keeping people fit (he had injury problems at Brentford didn't he?) but benefitting already from us actually having bought 3/4/5 first team capable players, as well as players like Spence, Odobert, Bergval, Gray all having a season on the clock.

Brentford did not play good attacking football - why is it a surprise we are not with him in change?

Now , he might change, but so far the football as it was under Ange has been pony. We are more solid defensively.
So as things stand we are heading for 4- 10th with a definite ceiling . No brave new world

Of course we will. We've added 3/4 first team players for a start. And we will probably end up with a better XGA than we did last season, for various reasons, but anyone saying Frank has made us "more solid" based on these first 6 games is talking out of their fucking arses. We aren't. Anyone saying we've sacrificed attacking productivity for defensive solidity is also talking bollocks. So far we have sacrificed a shit ton of offensive production (with better options) for worse defensive output. We've just been fucking lucky.

Maybe if it starts to click that will all reverse - but it's not like there was a bunch of evidence at Brentford to suggest this is a sure thing. Brentford were shit XG and even shitter XGA last season. I really don't know where this notion comes from that Frank's a defensive genius. Brentford's XGA was only 8 better than ours last year - 14th best in the PL.

And yet they finished much higher than we did in the league, and we will finish much higher than last season (with CL football and no, a few transfers won’t explain it). Almost like you can’t judge a team entirely by underlying expected metrics.

Franks teams tend to not give up many clear cut chances, they tend to be dangerous on set pieces and physical. We may lose on xG and xGa but we will win on actual points.

Based on last season, Solanke, Maddison and Kulu represent 39 goal contributions (G/A).

We're missing that potential and have Richie at point, doing next to nothing.

And no proper left winger.

Until Frank has a window and can begin to sort out our attack properly, we should count our blessings he's gotten us pretty solid, robust and resilient.

We're only solid defensively because we don't play hung-ho lunatic ball. I'd wager any coach, maybe bar Potter, would have got them tighter at the back, as that was part of Ange's philosophy. We still look susceptible at the back, but absolutely shite going forward.

I wasn't thrilled about Frank, but I understood why they brought him in and had been won around with how he talked. But so far, all talk, no substance. This is terror ball.

Some stills from our attacking mode against Brighton.

That was our consistent intent all game.

Our best performance so far (which we should have won).

Felt Frank pulled back a bit from that, today, for some reason.

Odd.

Shouldn't have.

That game was flow and vibe.

Just needed to pick that up and plonk it at the lane, today.
