Can't help but chuckle as Hoddle and TNT say we would have lost that game last year.
Erm... no. Played the same team 4 months ago twice and thumped them twice
I think (as well you know) the POINT he was making, was that
at 0-2 DOWN, we'd have lost the game, not come back to draw... Last season, we were 3-1 up from the 1st leg!
I heard someone say the same thing (that "
we'd have lost that last season") after the Brighton game recently, and get similar
know it all pelters from the
opposite direction, pointing out that we
did lose that game last season... (From being
2-0 up I might add!)
...and of course it shouldn't be forgotten, (yet conveniently has been) that we played them last season in what was the equivalent of their pre-season, whereas yesterday, they're coming to the end of their domestic season, and are fully up to speed fitness & tactics wise... We are not... And it showed!
0-2 down to 2-2 against THIS B/G team was by far and away a sterner test than being 3-1 up and them HAVING to attack/score last season... Again, it showed!
Liverpool lost last night, yet I don't see them getting anywhere NEAR as much foak as we did for coming BACK to draw!
... basically because the whole of football has decided that an Istanbul atmosphere is worth a win on its own, and doesn't allow for comebacks!
We on the other hand 'only drew' with teeny-tiny Norwegian outpost minnows Bødō/Glimt... forgetting the journey, their current form, their compact tinpot ground and the plastic pitch...
Will be interesting to see how Bodø/Glimt get on in Turkey in 3 weeks time.... That might give us a better idea of who had the harder task last night!
