Player Xavi Simons

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

I guess my struggle is, I don’t really know what he is.

He has limited passing range.

He isn’t able to take on his man 1 vs 1.

He has no speed. Or strength.

From the clips I’ve seen at Leipzig and PSV, he looks like he can pop up with a goal or two, so is he more of a second striker than a CAM? Do we need to get him further forward linking up with a classic 9? Will Solanke be the piece to the puzzle that helps Simons?

I dunno. Maybe I’m grasping.

I’m just so confused by him.
I think this is a bit harsh... you don't survive 10 years at La Masia if you can't pass the ball. He might not have an expansive range but much like Madders he is capable of the killer pass that unlocks a defence. We haven't seen much of it yet but it's early. He can also carry the ball at pace. I've seen many a RB goal where he looks like he's floating over the grass... again, we haven't seen it yet but I am hopeful it will be unlocked at some point. He doesn't mind doing the defensive stuff but personally I don't want him running towards our goal... that is where I would want Frank to release the shackles on him a bit.

On reports he chas been the most influential player in the league for a month and then droops back before performing well again

Didn’t say he couldn’t pass. Said his passing is limited.

Which you then literally said. 😂

I've seen enough of him so far to say he doesn't deserve to start vs chelsea. Will he come good who knows but right now he doesn't warrant being picked ahead of sarr or bergvall.

Clearly I'v been talking about exerting unnecessary additional narrative pressure.

Why are you being uncharacteristically obtuse?

Don't really agree that that's his only competition at the moment based on how he's performing. Sarr was in great form in that position before being sidelined for him. Odobert and Tel are competing with him on the left and are in a similar position where they need opportunities to try to adjust to this level.

Clearly I'm talking about using him as a 10. Don't see the point playing him at lw.

Clearly Sarr as 10 was an experiment thru necessity which TF sees no future in; so it holds no long term benefit to hamper XSs acclimatisation process to play him there.

Key factor: ACCLIMATISATION

No point really continuing this, both want the same thing, hopefully it clicks today :adesalute:

We have no option other than to persist with him and hope that he comes good. He was supposed to be our marquee signing of the summer.

The Dippers have generally got it right in the transfer market over the past decade. Most of our big money signings In that period have turned out to be flops. There are genuine grounds for real concern over what we have seen first 10 games or so.
How much better it would have been had Maddison not been injured and Simons could have been brought along more slowly.

Reminds me a bit of El Khannouss, who was at Leicester City last year. So far, Simons seems a little less dynamic but that will likely change as the season goes on. In retrospect, you wonder how whether the pressure from missing on Eze led Spurs to go after the best statement signing they could get over the best player available. I still think Simons will come good this season, but probably not until some of the others around him take a step forward or come back from injury. He's only as good as the options he has around him. I don't see him yet as someone who can create chances for himself in the way Maddison could.

So if this was the other way round and we could have signed him and he ended up going to Chelsea he would be having a MOTM performance today , so therefore I’m backing him to score a screamer from outside the box box!

Calm down everyone, I mean can anyone name any short-arsed former Barcelona wonder kids (wünderkind if you prefer) who Spurs have signed who hasn't worked out?:simonstongue:

Sorry, but Simon's is not a £52m player. Not only can't he trap the ball or pass or cross, but he just gave Chelsea the lead from another awful pass.

Our recruitment over the years has been totally shocking. So much money wasted, I'd rather we went into the business of building hospitals and actually made some kind of positive contribution to something other than opposing football teams.

All he seems to do is knock passes back to defenders - but seems he can't do that very well either.

No wonder he was dropped. We would have been better off playing with 10 men than bringing him on so far.

Simons needs time or moment of brilliance.
You would think tonight might have been the game for some magic but hmmmmm...

I think the next time people look at YouTube clips and salivate they need to press pause................ and wait.

IMO when I look at him at this point in time, I think he’s the next Havertz, in that he’ll probably adapt to the Prem but he just won’t be any good in it.
