It got all of us off to an absolutely shit start with Nuno. Not really his fault, either.
I basically renewed my season ticket as we were about to get Conte. Paid in full.
And then we didn't get Conte.
And Nuno wasn't even the next one. Gattuso, Fonseca etc, etc. It was a shambles.
By the time the (unemployed, compensation free) uninspiring Nuno got the job, the entire club was toxic.
Remember it well, and never forgotten.

Arteta seems like a case of escalation of commitment on Woolwich's part, featuring an obsession with sunk costs that are all those transfer fees and wages they've spent in the last 6 years; not a story of the eventual triumph of patience and persistence that we should learn from albeit begrudgingly. And I'm reasonably certain that my assessment has little to do with him being Arteta or them being Woolwich.

That's simply because their return, which has been an FA Cup, a CL semi final and a few unconvincing title challenges, is quite modest compared to how deep they have gone. We got more or less the same return from our investment on Pochettino, and the latter was nothing compared to Woolwich's on Arteta. Our football was infinitely better too. Pochettino is hardly the greatest manager ever anyway, so I'm quite sure one could come up with even better examples with other clubs and managers.

If they, with Arteta in charge, were to go out there and win the next 4-5 league titles or something I would hold my hand up and admit that I was horribly wrong. But I don't see it.

I realize it's fun to rag on Arteta and Woolwich, but you really would not be ok with a few difficult seasons that result in a title challenging team? A team that easily could have won a league title if City had not been playing perfect football down the stretch?

Our current 6 year plan has been to finish 5th or lower and then fire the manager every other season. I don't see how that gets us to Woolwich's level.
Frank’s football has a ceiling of 8th tho

Your assessment definitely has a lot to do with them being Woolwich.

‘Unconvincing’ title challenges includes missing out by 2 points in 23/24 and 5 in 22/23. Given our greatest ever season in recent years had us 7 points off top on less points I’m not sure what we’re doing here.

They’ve undoubtedly got to win a title or CL - but the idea their project isn’t something to want to emulate at all is just stupidity. The position they were in before it was awful. We were consistently vastly superior to them despite a lower wager bill.

I still think they do it this season ( I don’t trust this city team at all ) and no, you don’t need to win 3-4 league titles for a project to be worth it. Liverpool under Klopp won one. This league is fucking hard to win. I’d take an entire project spanning years for one title. The squad isn’t old either so not sure where ‘sunk cost’ comes in - they sack Arteta & the team is set for anyone .

We should be looking at what they’ve done but then trying to tweak it to make it even more successful. Because it has been a success. They’ve totally reversed our dynamic and been restored to being wildly viewed as one of the top 5/6 teams in Europe. That’s what it is all about.

Give over FFS!

You've been complaining about the quality of the players we have, how shit the attacking side has been.

And your bitching at Frank at what?

For doing his best with the shit at his disposal?

What do you want him to do? Click his magic fucking fingers and make everything fucking perfect instantly... Despite the fact, you and almost everyone has been complaining about the quality of players we have.

Grow the fuck up, and grow a pair of balls, FFS!

It's going to take years to sort this mess of a club out. That's Levys legacy, no one likes it, everyone wants us to play beautiful football, including me...

But we can't, coz we have a team full of shit.

An endless stream of brain dead, thick as shit, impatient entitles shit nuggets endlessly whining, asking for the impossible and then crying when they ain't got.

This fan base is fucking pathetic.

You are just going to have to be patient and deal with it like an adult... Or is that too hard for you?

We won Europe's second biggest trophy last season; and finished 5th the season before.

So you must agree with my assessment that the previous manager overachieved with the squad at his disposal?

I mean... It was a squad full of "shit" right?

This is where this type of sectarian support ends up tripping over its own bullshit. You can't slag off one manager who achieves certain goals with essentially the same squad that you're now declaring is so shit no expectations should be levelled. That's just nonsense.

How about we just all support the manager we have with the context of the players he has at his disposal at any given time?

Europe’s second biggest trophy is an interesting framing .. I mean until recently it was also Europe’s smallest trophy. You could also just say second smallest, or the European trophy where Bodo Glimt can be semi finalists.

As forever & always Phomes, managers are very rarely judged on cup performance, let alone cup performance in the Europa League, which until very recently was shunned by English teams like the black plague. It’s a competition Forest will fancy themselves in.

Ange was the benefactor of some very favourable circumstances - had we been thrust in to the competition the year before and faced a Leverkusen or Atalanta we almost certainly go out - and he came away with a trophy. It doesn’t say much about his managerial ability.

His results against Premier League teams of quality do. And those very quickly collapsed after an incredible start - his PPG as a premier league manager is shockingly bad, and very far away from “ over achieving “.

You know you don't always have to bite :D

But I do understand that you feel the need to intervene when Ange Derangers play their hands incredibly poorly like Ginola'sLeftBollock does - thus, potentially, undermining your own, far more measured stance.

But the point remains the same because the facts remain the same. If European Cups were easy to win everyone would have them (Woolwich don't). If 5th place finishes were easy everyone would achieve them (they don't).

We both know Frank has inherited what the previous manager inherited - a Top 4 worthy defence and a mediocre midfield and attack. I'm prepared to to trust in Frank to improve us incrementally just as you do.

What I'm not prepared to wear is utter arrant nonsense and hypocrisy. If GinolasLeftBollock had given an ounce of grace to the previous manager I'd wear his sudden appeals that Frank Derangers accept the mediocrity of our squad. But he didn't, so I' don't.

I acknowledge (and applaud) that this is different from your own take - that Frank Derangers should be free to have whatever take they wish - as indeed should any supporter of any club be free to have of the manager at any time. As you know I value consistency over all else. 😍

Ange derangers? You value consistency, but you suck off Ange at every opportunity when he lost 22 game in a season.

Your going on block, every time you write something the global average IQ score drops several points, from the sheer stupidity of what you have written.

I have never met someone so fecking deluded in all my life.
