I saw Hoddle loads and he was Extremely good... But NOT at that ' genius ' level..
Really?

Ok. Different strokes for different folks I suppose.

What Hoddle did with a ball WAS genius, as far as I'm concerned. I think you'll find the VAST majority of those who watched him regularly would agree as well.

In his time, there was only one player that surpassed him, and that was Maradona. Even Platini couldn't manipulate a ball the way Hoddle did.

They’re pathetic. He was good against Albania, worked really hard and was noticeable throughout. Lacked a bit of creativity but he was easily one of our best players.

Consistently done very well for England and kept us from going out in the round of 16 at the Euros yet will weirdly catch strays.

It’s got very racisty vibes. They particularly seem to hate it when a young, black guy is perceived to have an ego.
It's the usual "build them up high so we can knock him down from a great height" schtick that the media thrive on. The bigger the star, the bigger the target, so the more sales/clicks generated. I don't think his colour even comes into it, as they did exactly the same with Beckham back in the day.

They'll keep doing it because they know there are an awful lot of mugs out there that will lap it all up, thus continuing the gravy train.

Not sure I would place Hoddle ahead of Cruyff,

I watched him from 78 to when he left... He was absolutely a top draw player and a joy to watch .. But without the likes of hazard he couldn't do what he did... He's one of many that fell a couple of levels down of the Pele maradona elite 'genius' level like Robson Gerrard v good but NOT genius level .. Gazza Greaves and Rooney are the only ENGLISH players that brushed that level.. they didn't make it but they came close..

I'm not keen on Tuchel as a 'personality', but fair play to him and the squad - they've sent out a message to the rest of the world. It's an impressive, praiseworthy achievement. Hopefully they can continue to build on it in the Summer.
You may be forced into liking him more in the coming months. Either due to a World Cup win, or his next managerial position…..

I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree there then my friend. I took watched him from his prime until he left, and he was a genius to me, far more than Rooney and, from an ability to do anything with the ball, he was levels above Robson and Gerrard.

Greaves himself said this "If Hoddle was born French, he would have won 100 caps, or been revered as a world-class player/genius."

Out of the mouth of a legend who knew what he was talking about.
