The FACT is he England managers were never forced to build a team around him which was the ONLY way hoddle thrived, you must have noticed Mickey hazard doing the graft and Hoddle taking the plaudits! ... and with 70 plus caps you can't say he wasn't given a chance to force the situ..., Great players just do it and don't need players around them , Rooney and gazza ,at their peaks were unstoppable and absolutely undropable.. irrespective of formations ,club or country they ruled the park ... Like brooking. Hoddle was hit and miss and never really left an individual indelible mark on the international stage .which unfortunately takes him down a notch from gazza and Rooney. And did you ever see Greaves? For 5 ISH years he was amongst the best players in the world.. imo there really hasn't been an english striker with his around ability since.. but hey ho...

Saw Romario quite a few times in Rio, reminded me of Greaves, UNBELIEVABLE talent. And ronaldinho.. was just wow.. saw him early days in his international career in Paraguay 99, and you saw glimpse and you sort of knew... But At that time rivaldo and Ronaldo ruled the roost, both were just crazy talented, rivaldo could play anywhere on the park and be a class above and Ronaldo.. had the lot, almost the perfect center forward..
one of the boys in 1970 that broke my English heart was Jairzinho.. if you ever find yourself a a loss in Rio, most nights he has a beer or 2 in bar called 'leme' in copacabana..
Ronaldo phenomenon I think is the best no9 of all time. Big statement. The guy was unstoppable for a few years.
Your comments on Hazard are just weird. He played about 100 games over a 10 year period and in about a third of them he came off the bench. So he averaged about 7 games a season as a starter. Ossie must be far and away the most important midfield partner Glenn had at Spurs.
The idea Hazard was a grafter is just nonsense, he was the nearest thing we had to Glenn in terms of creativity and range of pass. The idea Glenn somehow depended on Micky to succeed makes me wonder if you ever watched us in the 80s.
When Glen played for England, he generally played pretty well. It just wasn't Robson's thing to have a playmaker 10 in the team.

I never said hazard was unskilled.. BUT for us he was a ball winner as was ossie and that's what Hoddle needed to thrive.. Hoddle wasn't exactly renowned for his tackling and ball winning ....without that someone Hoddle didn't thrive..or perhaps you missed that...
That's why you need a blend of different midfielders that complement each other. England had plenty of the "other types," they only had one Hoddle and were dumb enough to think that what he brought was less desirable than what players like David Platt brought.
Work rate doesn't make you a genius, being able to do things with a Football that no one else could does.
No it's all about delivering twh goods IE top end middle fielder irrespective of skill level had to deliver and it's still relevant today had to deliver goals Hoddle had 50 plus caps delivered 8 Goals platt had 60 ISH caps and delivered 27 goals .. THAT another reason Hoddle fails the genius test .. he never delivered on the bigger stage and with 50 plus caps it can't be said he wasn't given the opportunity.
He was a genius on the field many times when I saw him and it’s players like him that made me support us in the first place and I go back further than Greavsie to John White etc
