Nah, we genuinely would have been in danger of being relegated if we kept Ange this season. You only have to look at his disastrous Forest stint as further proof to that.

Yes he had to go. Having said that Forest had over 60 shots on goal and scored one goal under him.

I'm still hopeful that if we can see this period out and the injured players return we'll have a more attacking approach.

I'll go out on a limb and argue that losing that many duels had everything to do with his 5-2-3 formation that completely surrendered the midfield where most of the duels in a football game take place.

No not 3-4-3 where Spence and Udogie were actually wide midfielders instead of fullbacks;.an actual 5-2-3 where Palhinha and Bentancur were left on an island against Woolwich's heavily crowded midfield featuring Zubimendi, Rice, Eze and Merino.

Going with a 5-2-3 against a 4-6-0 has to be one of the craziest things a manager has ever done here. If the end is nigh, we'll probably look back on it as the breaking point.

Best to know the context isn’t it?

Without context what isn’t true about that though? We weren’t competitive against the scum and that shows it. That’s on the players.
You think we weren't competitive on Sunday because of the players?!? The players didn't pick the most defensive option in each position, didn't pick the formation, didn't chose to completely surrender midfield, didn't have a plan B for when Woolwich scored etc
Our lack of competitiveness is on the manager. How do you think international players feel being asked to play like a league 2 side drawn against a premier League team?!

This is a really worrying quote because, why on earth would you go long against Woolwich? They are the best team in the league in the air and winning aerial duels.

Did anyone notice how we kept lumping it long to Richarlison on Sunday and he'd kept being beaten in the air by Saliba and Hincapie or Timber?

Or Califiori would beat Kudus in the air.

Even Neville said it on comms, he asked why on earth is our tactic to play it long when practically their entire first 11 are superior in the air?

I don't mean to be OTT, but that is really fucking puzzling if Frank is genuinely saying we should have competed better in aerial duels. Why would you set the team to play like that against Woolwich of all teams? A tactical disasterclass

No, we should have kept the ball on the deck and played football. That is how we could have beaten them.

Competitive in duels means a lack of aggression, that’s what I took from the quote as it’s what I saw on the pitch but as usual we need to see the context in the press conference. The tactics were wrong obviously. I said 2 days beforehand he’d go to a back three because he was worried bout their set pieces and that’s why he did it. But I knew he’d do it.

Our players are fucking pampered wet wipes. We saw it last season the way they hid behind Ange second half of the season and let him take the blame every week (although his tactics were shit every week). I mean, the players are the only consistent.

Yeah I agree it was weird. Makes me wonder what all the coaches are doing. Tomorrow will be horrendous

The problem is Maddison is done. He won’t return this year if at all.
Kulu will take months to get “match fit”.
Solanke. I have a feeling he’s not going to be the same player. It’s too much of a freak injury for this long out.

So we just have to work with what we’ve got.

Be brave. Play Simons. Put Dane on. Tell him to run through a brick wall for you.

This football we currently have is not Spurs. It just isn’t.

A Saturday night at the lane should he bouncing. It won’t be.

I know. Why the fuck where we playing three CBs when they had no recognised CF.

It's a write off mate, as was the games against Chelsea and Woolwich. I don't even have a faint hope of an upset. We will absolutely lose.

Problem is, Fulham at home on Saturday is the type of game we struggle with. Well we seem to struggle with all types of games at the moment.

I can see another defeat then too.

Could've still worked if he had pushed the defensive line near the halfway line to minimize the space between our lines, after recognizing that Merino was going to play as a false 9 instead of running behind the defense like an actual striker. Play to your strengths by forcing Eze and Merino to run behind someone like VdV instead.

5-2-3 and a defensive line that was dropping and dropping for no good reason handed the centre of the pitch to Woolwich on a silver platter.

Indeed. He should of been screaming at them to.push up and even had 15 minutes at HT to properly address it.

He was but there's been a couple of reports and online accounts saying that the players weren't listening to him or there was some sort of communication issue.

There is a clear disconnect between him and the players.

People were ignoring the Frank out vote just 7 days ago…… was despicable to consider talking about it.

I told you.

A Week is a long time in football people.

It was coming for weeks, as you'll have seen by the abuse I used to get for saying it. There has been nothing positive since his appointment, nothing.

It's finished, and the club are just going to waste a few games, which could prove very important, until they make that inevitable decision.
You're still talking shit and a prime example of everything wrong with modern fans.

If it's not an instant success, it's shit.

Used these screenshots in a different post for a different analysis, but they are also relevant for the discussion of our defensive line I feel

I guess Romero was unoccupied as the old school sweeper in a back 5, but VdV could've been marking Eze if we had simply pushed the defensive line by a notch.

Instead of VdV stepping up, Bentancur eventually drops back to cover Eze which takes one of our midfielders farther away from the ball. VdV is in no man's land here really.

The same pattern outlined above, except it's Timber instead of Eze that VdV was watching from a distance. Once again, see how this reluctance of VdV's put Bentancur in a very difficult situation where he had to mark 2 players in Eze and Timber simultaneously.

Putting two of your very best players in Romero and VdV into a situation where they couldn't impact the game in any meaningful way for long periods because of how far away they were from the opponents and the ball is questionable coaching to say the least.
