Its not the transfer fees which is the measure, it's the wages. We do not attract elite talent.

I question how many elite players are out there who 1- would want to choose Spurs ahead of other bigger clubs even if we offered massive wages and 2 - the quantity of elite players in football.......there does seem to be a lack of truly elite players compared to previous eras.

It’s an incredibly worrying situation as I can’t see how this group of players turn it around.

If Frank is sacked it might give a brief uplift, but I’m sure we’ll revert to type with the next guy too.

The home form really concerns me as i believe we’re in a catch 22 situation - players confidence now shot so produce another limp performance which in turns brings more booing, which then leads to even lower drop in confidence. It’s difficult to see how we pull ourselves out of this as we seem to lack the players with the steely resolve to do something about it.

Very worried!

Footballers are mercenaries. If top players don't want to come to us, a team frequently in Europe int he "Best League in the World" then it's because they sense a lack of ambition. And they're right.

We were an injury time corner away from doing it against Man United and we did it in the CL against Copenhagen. We can do it.

The thing is, a £55m signing on the wages we're prepared to pay is nearly always gonna be inferior to a £55m signing on wages we're not prepared to pay.
We always shop a couple of shelves down from the clubs we should be competing with.
We're in the same market as clubs like Villa, which is ludicrous considering our resources, revenue streams and location.
Villa not even close to our market. Maybe the one season they rolled the dice but they spent fuck all this summer and we spent 200m.

Yes ideally but given time by an very impatient fan base and definitely backed to the hilt by the club
The new Gaffer will have to be smart politically, and be in tune with the emotions of the fanbase - This was the genius of Pochettino.

A method that a manager can buy time and patience for himself, is by integrating academy players. It just so happens we have a very talented crop on the cusp.

Silva for me and not because of yesterday.

Doesn't smile, takes no sh!t, unsigned contract on the table.

Wants to win and would not be grateful for the chance. I think Iraola flatters to deceive. Aside from yhat, an up and coming manager of sone worth.

if you are trying to say we don't spend big you are wrong. Over the last 5 years we've had a bigger net spend than both those clubs you mentioned

United -679
Woolwich -672
Chavs -647
Spurs -565
Newcastle -436
Liverpool -427
City -345

Try again
We pay much lower wages, we do not attract the same level of talent and we're also utterly shite at selling players which affects net spend.

We spend money on absolute dross and promising youngsters.

But what I was REALLY saying was refuting your claim that it's a lie that the elite clubs weren't spending £60m-£80m on individual players 7 years ago because they were. We are only just now spending that sort of money, but they're all stepped up beyond that.

Don’t think we can get anyone decent until the summer. If we wait until then, get Tommy T when he leaves England, or throw money at Simeone, accept the football wont be beautiful, but we’d build a strong mentality.

It's a problem that was there in the early-mid 70s. Players demanded under the table payments to sign (what we would call Signing On Fees in today's game) and Bill Nick refused to pay them. This greatly reduced the pool of talent available to us and eventually culminated in our relegation in 1977.

We stopped being a top tier club when the maximum wage was abolished. Bill Nick believed that the honour of playing for Tottenham Hotspur should have been enough for any player and that players should practically be willing to take a vow of poverty to play for the club.

As usual with this clown-show club we have two parallel crises to handle; recruitment and manager. The team is desperate for quality players. No manager will "do well" with this squad. At the same time we have to change manager if we continue losing, hoping a new manager bounce can save us from relegation. Ideally we pick up a few points in December, Frank gets to stay and by some miracle we sign a couple of game changers in January. It's very easy to see a different scenario playing out though..
What am I missing here?
