If he’s pissed off with Palace for not spending and essentially not backing him in the transfer market, why would he come here?

Were a much bigger club, bigger resources, bigger stadium. Tbh I still think he might not understand the logic why they call themselves palace with a stadium like that.

Hot take: Frank's hasn't managed to sort the defense out, and that's a way bigger thorn in our side than the attack that's somehow sitting T-4th in goals.

Taken together, this decreased emphasis on open play and an accompanying high emphasis on set pieces has reduced skill gap between teams significantly this season. Burnleys and Forests of the world cannot pass the ball as well as Citys and Liverpools, but they can head it just fine.

The relevance of this leaguwide trend for us is that, despite the common complaints about attackers, we still would be more than okay if we could simply defend at a level that you would expect from these group of players. In other words, let's try not being 13th in xGA and T-7th in GA first, the latter being in a strong downward trajectory to match the former for quite some time now.

15 GA in the last 9 league games with a defensive line that's been intact cannot reasonably be interpreted in a flattering way. And no, playing hideous football means just that: It doesn't indicate that you've sacrificed attacking firepower for defensive solidity.

I think he wanted us to be tighter defensively but he’s been faced with criticism of us not attacking so has abandoned some of his principles. Trouble is now, we can’t attack still and the defence is full of holes.

If I were him, I’d pick an eleven he thinks is the strongest and keep playing it then sub in players instead of rotation. Get some familiarity going. Trouble is, he should have done that weeks ago but couldn’t because players kept letting him down. Now it’s too late as he is starting to get under pressure. I don’t think he is in trouble internally yet from those above, just a couple of wins and we’d be top four with how congested it is, but the trouble is the next few games are difficult.

On the surface. I’d say wasting money is worse than not spending it.

Not really

Managers would prefer working with a bigger squad than a smaller one, Glasner's issue is that his squad is too small to cope with playing in Europe as well...garantee he'd prefer to have more options than nothing at all.

You keep sanctimoniously bringing this up as if we didn't all have the best fucking night and loved every minute. I don't give a fuck who we beat - we won a fucking trophy and it's one of the best moments of my Spurs-supporting life.

But equally, in the cold light of morning as adults some of us are capable of taking a step back and looking objectively at the quality of the opposition and what winning that trophy meant as a measure of where we are as a club. By talking about the teams we beat we're not taking away from the joy and glory of the win - we're just stating facts.
Good post!

Being objective about our Europa League run to the final doesn’t negate the enjoyment of the win or make you any less of a Spurs fan.

It really pisses me off when people make out as such.

We’re trying to dissect the long term problems of the club (which started waayyyyyy before this season) in the hope that we can return to regular winning ways on the pitch.

Edit: I think Furball man Furball man nailed it in his post - It’s very likely player complacency at the root of the issues.

I don't really understand why this has descended into a "Frank or Ange" thread.

Ange was shit and had to go.
HAD. TO. GO.

Frank might not work out.
He won't be any worse than Ange.
He might turn it around and be better.
He too might need to be replaced.

People seem to treat football managers like life partners.

What do you mean he won't be any worse than Ange? Frank ain't finishing fifth this season. We won't be in Europe next season. We won't win a trophy under Frank. All of that makes him worse than Ange.

Bodo played us off the park earlier this season. Just a few months after we'd beaten comprehensively over 2 legs.

Possibly not the best example you could have drawn on to make your point :D

But more importantly is there any evidence - any data whatsoever- you can provide to refute my thesis that Postecoglou was actually overachieving with this squad in his time at Spurs?

We are 13 games in. Any data at all you can point to that suggests I'm wrong and you were right?

Asking for a fanbase desperately looking for hope.

And please don't deflect by pretending I'm making a "pro Postecoglou" argument. I'm making a purely data empirical argument. We now have 13 games of data having replaced Postecoglou with a very decent contemporary in Thomas Frank

Where is the improvement? Is there ANYTHING you can point too?

Or was I right all along and the real problem is the squad? That ANY manager is doomed to failure by the entire process - including fan expectation and patience.

Derangers fighting the wrong battles at the wrong time is the very essence of Derangement. As I warned you the "next guy" is now getting the exact same sacky sack treatment you dished out to the last guy. The cycle will always cycle.

That and pissing on the greatest Spurs moment in 40 years. I cannot over-stress what a calamitous decision it was for you people to deny yourselves that moment. All because you wanted to win internet shitfights over a manager. Just so, so very very sad.

Because a group/league stage game is an entirely different prospect to that level of footballer than a semi final. Different time of the season/weather too - the only “intimidating” thing about Bodo is the freezing pitch which we didn’t actually face in the semi final, we also got the home leg in first so took a nice lead to Bodo. Made life easier.

Yes. 17th. 38 points. There’s no data whatsoever that says anything other than this was the worst Spurs league season in modern premier league history. Frank also struggling doesn’t mean Ange was overachieving.

17th is data. The worst non-relegated team.

We are higher in the league than we ended up under Ange - and regardless it’s pretty clear Frank isn’t doing very well. It’s entirely possible someone else would do better.

Talking “fan expectation” and “patience” in the context of being the worst non-relegated team in the premier league is silly. We lost twenty odd games. Ange got sacked because for over a year the club had been in a doom spiral, starting at the end of his first season & then leading in to an entire season of garbage. There was no progress. *

Another manager is getting criticised for getting really bad results? This isn’t derangement, it’s just a modern premier league football club. That’s how it works.

Me being able, as an adult, to objectively look at that Europa league win and who we beat and view the achievement in that context does not mean it wasn’t enjoyable to win. I don’t feel the need to big up Ange’s accomplishment to have enjoyed the experience. It was great fun, it was also very low quality.

*He then carried on being a total loser for Forest. The only time he overachieved was in his first season, and even then with a heavy dose of context and the more time he got with the team the worst results became. The guy was rubbish. Frank doing rubbish doesn’t equate to him being good.

No it doesn’t.

- Ange had a still firing Son and one match a week when we finished 5th. Also a fit and firing Maddison. Those two dragged us there.

- We won’t win a trophy because we’re not in the EL this season and the other trophies available to us are harder to win. Ange didn’t win any of these trophies so it isn’t a fair comparison.
