Match Newcastle United VS Tottenham Hotspur. Tuesday the 2nd of December at 20:15

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

This week feels like yet ANOTHER Sliding Doors moment for our club....

Lose both, and all hell will break loose....
Show up - and even WIN one - and you never know the effect it may have!!

Can these Sliding Doors NOT hit us in the face for once???

I think if we try and go gung-ho with the press and 2 up top Newcastle will just sit back and kill us on the counter with their pacey wingers.

I'd probably go back to basics somewhat, and play the type of shape that worked pretty well against Leeds, Brighton, Villa (despite the result). I think bringing in RKM for Rich and playing Bergvall in the pivot instantly elevates the team and gives us more dynamism.

It's fine to rip everything up and do something radical in a game where you won't have much of the ball like vs PSG, but we can't keep trying to reinvent the wheel every game. I think we'd have done much better going back to basics against Fulham but he over-thought it and we were awful.

Don’t bother playing = a 3-0 loss doesn’t it ?

Would I take that ? Given recent years, yeah probably
Watching our youth team get beat 6-0 because we couldn't be arsed would be better than watching our senior squad get beat 3-1, anyway.

My opinion at least. Just really hate this fixture because you know we'd be shit even if we were playing well (which we aren't).

I definitely think we have the quality to finish top 10, but with these tactics, the attitudes of our senior players and the culture of losing games that’s been cultivated where is our next win coming from?

Teams like Brentford and Wolves target top 10.

Spurs current squad cost 850m. That's more than Woolwich and Newcastle, and just shy of Liverpool. Only city. Chelsea and United have spent significantly more.

The squad has cost double that of Villa, Bournemouth, Forest, Palace, Brighton. spurs absolutely should not be seeing them as competition.

Anything less than top 4 or a major trophy is an absolute failure of the club. And saying that Spurs should finish top 10 is absurd.

Ange showed that given the right motivation, the squad CAN win trophies, and CAN challenge top 4 - but you can't do that in 4 competitions if you only have 3 full backs in the squad and can't keep your players fit. You also aren't going to achieve anything playing a low block and hoping to score from corners.

If Spurs drop out of champs league spots next season, it could be an issue keeping the best players. Clearly the club will instruct Frank to finish top 4 (or is the 5 now) as priority and to bin off domestic cups.

And for God's sake.......buy a proper goal keeper!!!!

Having watched a lot of ROM-COMS ( don’t ask ) ; it’s only BECAUSE the doors hit Gwyneth Paltrow in the face that she returns to the flat and finds her love-rat boyfriend in bed with her best friend. Thereafter following a few travails she finds enduring love with that Scottish bloke from Four Weddings and a Funeral . And things are very much better for her thereafter.

Moral of the story; something that goes inexplicably and randomly wrong can lead to unexpected very good things happening to you in the future.

So what if we lose tomorrow , maybe things will somehow and in an unforeseen way ; ultimately turn out to be in our favour ; is all I’m saying.

Like the lineup, but Spence has to play this one. Gordon will have a field day against poor little Pedro. Vic will also be busy now that teams know they can shoot from distance at will.

Don't have any confidence we get a positive result here. Our utter lack of play through the middle really reduces Xavi's effectiveness... and any crosses that Kudus and Odo can muster will be neutered by their giants.

1-3 Newcastle, late consolation goal from RKM.

Last season (I think) we played them off the park but our attack was awful. Not clicked yet, Solanke was injured. Johnson twice should have been played in behind but we messed up trying to pass to the other side.
It was 2 defensive mistakes that cost us goals but the overall performance was decent. Newcastle were hemmed in for much of the game and crowd was a bit quiet.

It's not impossible to get some points but we really do need some effort and ruthless finishing.
I'd like to see Sarr, Odobert and Xavi start. It's time we start trusting Xavi more, he will not acclimate sitting on the bench plus he is unique out of the players available so he really should be on that pitch.

If we turn up and bumble around without purpose or desire to win, then we have no chance.

Think we leave with another loss tbh! It’ll be a hostile atmosphere and a cold evening. Our lightweight players will be bullied off the pitch and retreat onto their shells 15mins into the game.

Ange's first squad wasn't worse than this squad. He had a fit Son, Maddison, and Kulusevski. And Richarlison scored 11 league goals.
Yeah, if Solanke, Maddison and Kulu were fit I think that would be a legit claim, as we do now have greater depth across the squad and a few promising additions.

But given those 3 are injured and Son's gone, I think our forward line has been significantly weaker this season than Ange's first season. And it's been exacerbated by RKM also being injured for all but a handful of games.

Odobert Rich and Kudus with Xavi as a 10 still adapting to the league...that's a lower mid-table front line. Significantly worse than Frank had at Brentford last season. And bringing in Tel and/or Johnson arguably makes it worse.
