Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

So people not wanting to go two footed on a 19 yo player who has made 1 mistake have an agenda. Whats that agenda??
He played centre half and full back last year in an absolute shambles.
This is his first time to play 4-5 games in a row and has been good in 2, only ok in 1 and poor in anothr

Go to the Tel thread to see the agenda. Go look a few months back to see what people were saying with not one person talking about his age...everyone just stating how shit he has been (myself included) because up to that point he has been shit.

I stopped slating him when I realised the same energy wasn't directed at Gray. I thought we judge on ability and performance but Tel wasn't offered the same luxury as Gray despite being

*The same age
*Costing the same
*Under the same managers

Yeh you can say "I didn't slate Tel" but did you offer a "he's young and just come to a new league" response? When he was getting demolished. If so then cool.

Gray isn't the same age, he's a year younger. He'll be club-trained which we're short on so he won't be taking a slot away from anybody so we can afford to be more patient with him. Tel takes up one of our 17 overseas slots if we want to use him so it's not the same situation. Tel's thread has like 5 pages in the last 2 months, this one is regularly bumped.

Because he hasn't played lol

He's never a 6 in my opinion. Not clean enough technically to be receiving it there.

He looks good further forward and making runs beyond the ball like we saw against PSG and Bodo. Great engine and generally intelligent. Still a lot of upside there but the overhyping is to be expected given the general trash of our midfield this season.

Felt the same. He is more the Declan Rice/Hojbjerg profile of footballer, a ball winning 8 who is good getting all over the park.

The issue with the 6 is instinctive. A 6’s first thought should be to pass the ball, Gray likes to dribble if he can first. That is dangerous in that role as if you lose the ball by dribbling you leave the defence totally exposed.

Only ‘6’a we have are Palhinha and Bissouma in my opinion. Bentancur, Gray, Bergvall, Sarr are all box to box type players.

Ah ok thank you for clarifying that Gray doesn't get the same defence as Tel because he's 11 months younger and English.

The reason why it was never brought up (look at the thread when he was getting pelters if you think I'm exaggerating) that he is still young was because he is 11 months older than Gray. 19 is young..20 is OAP territory. I understand now.

Oh sorry and he's English as well, I forgot that.

You don't need to be English to be Club trained, but you know that right....... :andros:

What are you actually saying here...

Don't dance around it... call it out!!!

Eh?? You just posted justification on why Tel was getting slated?? You stated he was 11 months older than Tel and foreign so takes up a non HG spot??
No I didn't, I said it's not the same situation and that they're not the same age. Players develop a lot at those ages. The CT thing is more that the fans can we more patient because the club won't need to make a decision over a player as quickly because he won't be taking up one of the slots we're limited in.

Majority of times getting partial mins.

The reason why Gray's us bringing bumped now is because he's starting matches and because of the goal we conceded...
And Gray had hardly played in the league until the end of Nov which is why Tel's thread was getting more 'energy'. Not sure where this need to make sure all the young players are getting an equal amount of criticism has come from :ange-facepalm:

What??

Do you remember Winks performances early on in his spurs career? The guy was bossing teams like City and Madrid FFS...he was the best player on the pitch against big teams so much so that Guardiola spoke out about how much of a fan he is and he earned 10 caps for England.

Gray has looked like little boy lost in the middle bar the Brentford game. He goes missing and his positional sense is awful. Gray hasn't looked nowhere near as good as Winks did early on.
winks was pochettino's downfall, it started going downhill when he started playing little harry winks in midfield, getting us overrun and mauled most games.

theres a reason hes in the championship.

Id argue Sissoko more than Winks, having him in there was like playing with 10 men.

Changed Winks game pairing them together, and it was downhill for him from there.

Im not sure Winks wouldnt have ended up just the same as now, maybe he would, but for a spell he looked a real player in the making.

I like Gray a lot, theres something about him. Hard to argue he's been particularly great up to now though. I saw the mention of Rice earlier and I think it rings true. Rice obviously was quality from the beginning, had that something about him, but it took a while to find his true position and for him to really shine. And I agree, I think Gray might be best used in a very similar way.

Once again, as with many threads in the forum right now, I think he is suffering from how shit we are as much as anyone. In a settled, coached, rehearsed system I suspect he would look a lot better than he does now.

That said, he is also clearly very young, inexperienced and raw - with much to learn. So errors are a natural part of things as well.

winks was a boy playing against men in there, it was a tough watch. same with skipp, the pair of them were second to every loose ball in the prem, it was like watching school boys. if winks was good enough hed be in the prem still now, but if youre that behind physically you better be one hell of a player, and he aint that.

gray will be fine, ill be shocked if he isnt. hes already got the size of a premier league player he must be 6'1, give it a few years hell have some man power in him too, he already has good feet and a good understanding of the game.

There were definitely games for Winks where he absolutely bossed it, against good teams too. Needed the right support/set up around him though.

I dont think it was always obvious he didnt have it, for a time I do believe he had real potential.

But then injuries took him out for a while, and then he was played in a weird diamond system with Sissoko - and it all just went down hill from there.

100% agreed, I think he'll be fine and deserves some patience
