Messi spoke about his team mate and fellow countryman. It cost him absolutely nothing to say a few flattering words. It was not in a courtroom or with a gun pointed towards his head, asking for his most honest thoughts. No, some random interview and those words popped out.
Taky any captain in the world, if they're not able to exaggerate towards a journalist, to back a struggling team mate, they're a fucking terrible captain.
Should he have said Romero is a fucking shite defender even if he thought so? No, he just said, Romero is amazing, probably the best in the world.
It has ZERO value.
Wayne Rooney got loads more yellow and red cards than Gary Linekar. Don’t see the relevance. Different players and styles and different eras but both very good. I don’t suppose him criticising Levy/owners is the reason you’d rather have two Danso’s than two Romero’s
Now, if any world class defender, without absolutely no connection to Romero whatsoever said that, it would've carried some weight, but when the captain said it about his team mate for a specific position

And everyone know he's not even the best defender in the team. His much younger team mate is superior on every level. Even Danso may be better. Make much fewer mistakes.
But NO CLUB. Absolutely NONE, goes in for him. I mean , he's the best defender in the world. Even his captain for Argentina said so, so it must be 100% truem right? Still, nobody wants him. In his Prime years, which is now.

Let's not let it distract us from the fact that Romero is a liability here. He's supposed to be the captain but is letting the team down regularly.
As for the Linekar/Rooney comment - it isn't comparable. King was able to be a top defender without committing cautionable fouls. A striker should be capable of having a Lineker-esq record because there's no excuse to be getting loads of yellows in that position. For a defender, it's a pretty useful marker of "not a good defender" (ref mistakes aside)
He's a fucking knob head, we need to be rid.. BUT ATM hes the best we've got, saying that voskovic sounds the real deal.. so give rom to the end of the season then out him. Voskovic should be ready by then .
What kind of reasoning is that. The kind that you don’t like him for criticising the owners and are going to be on his case. Think your reaction means thats pretty close to the bone. The only liabilities are bad players. Romero’s a very good player. If you can’t see that, that’s on you.
King was a brilliant cb, probably my favourite player after Gazza when I was young, but completely different styles, different ref standards Not all CBs play the same way. Romero is aggressive on the first ball up to the striker. For the amount of initial contested balls up to the striker his timing is brilliant he vary rarely gives fouls away like that. Most of his yellows come from professional fouls when the team is in trouble or loses his rag like Rooney. He’s also reffed differently to many other players. The whole Romero has more yellows than King means nothing

People say Romero is the best we've got, but Danso has barely been given a chance. You can't prove that claim without actually trying the alternative.
When Danso has played, we've made fewer clangers - fewer stupid, self-inflicted mistakes at the back. If defending is about not gifting goals, there's no solid case that Romero is clearly better.
Danso deserves a proper run. And right now, we've got nothing to lose. Our defence with Romero is a mess. It can't really get worse.
We are way better with Romero. His passing makes such a difference.

Yep I always think of what Hojbjerg said in that he didn’t care if the manager was previously the tea lady, he’d give his all whoever was in the hot seat.
He might have had his limitations, but IMHO he had the right mindset which we seem to seriously lack within the current squad.
I mean yea, his passing made a huge difference against Liverpool.
It helped them take the lead out of nothing, in a game where they created nothing. So yea, it makes a huge difference.
Maybe we should try without that difference for a while. See if conceding fewer goals actually help us.
Its fucking crazy. The children pretending that if you dont buy how wonderful Romero is you secretly support Woolwich. Its a joke the man is a deeply erratic volatile player who can not consistently be relied upon. I can name six centerbacks in EPL id swap him for. I dont give a damn what Messi says he'd probably pretend Lautaro is better than Kane being Argentine...he isn't.
I think its time we demanded more for loads of these players and if they continue as they have been fearlessly replace them NONE are irreplaceable. Oh and being reliant on your fucking centerback to progress the ball tells me your playing football WRONG.
He wasn’t at fault for any goals. His second yellow was stupid, the first was scandalous from the official. You get your wish vs Palace.

that guy is clearly not a spurs fan. Seems fairly obvious to me. Anyway you obviously are and you don’t particularly rate him.fair enough. I’m sure he could get through games not making mistakes by just hacking it away anywhere giving the ball back to them in a different way that people don’t recognise as a mistake. But it kind of makes you a poorer team.
People fixate on mistakes to much instead of looking at how players effect the game and territory. I think you do need at least one of your centre half’s to progress the ball or atleast step into the space. We want more from the players but we need more from the club to put better players around them. Our record up until recently was over 1.5 points more a game with Romero and VDV playing than without. Put any of those six centre backs in this team they’d struggle and probably make mistakes either trying to be proactive or through frustration or just exposed too often because as a team our off the ball work is shit

Oh the red card wasn’t enough?
It’s not because he didn’t exit the pitch fast enough, it’s because he was right about the first yellow card from a blatant foul and the club aren’t toeing the line by saying he was wrong.
