The striker we've been linked to...

He's either Everton/Wolves material or he's what Lukaku was meant to be. No inbetween. Looks like a gamble.

He is a gamble, unquestionably. But the striker market has never been drier I don’t think. All the top strikers that are surefire hits are all taken by the big clubs. Unless by some miracle Harry gets a sudden pining for home, we’re shopping in that second or third tier of strikers for now, where you are gambling unfortunately.

The other realistic options are Vlahovic, Moise Kean, Toney & Igor Thiago. They’re all every bit the gamble that Aghehowa is, and a lot less exciting. At least with Aghehowa, he’s got a bit of the unknown about him, he’s only 21, is scoring a barrowload of goals (in the same league as Gyokeres, granted) , and you can see the vision in terms of his physicality, pace and power. Just got to hope we can refine his game, particularly his touch, but there is enough else there to work with.

Re Johnson. Sounds like we want too much for him. Knowing how shit we are at transfers we’ll probably price him out of a move.

We’d be stupid to loan him out. If he goes to a club at that level on loan and they figure out how much he lacks as a player, you’ve blown any chance of ever selling him.

Figure out what these clubs are willing to pay for him, and if it’s close to £30m, I’d honestly just take it and run.

What's the right amount, though?
For last seasons top scorer.
Scorer of the winner in the ropey league final.
To a rival PL team, no less.

£30m is probably about right but we’d want more I guarantee it.

Not sure a massive spend on a CF makes sense

Richarlison: very good finisher but weak in the build up
Solanke: decent all round
Mauni: Not a LW, good build up/hold up but mixed in front of goal

There is no guarantee the guy from Portugal will be better and even if he is it doesn’t significantly improve us. There is much bigger bang for our buck at DM, LW and LB.

Levy has gone, I hope we are in completely new situation where we take whatever is offered so players we don’t want are removed from the salaries and do not impact progress of our academy players.

And what do we learn if nothing changes, class?

You're overthinking it; my point is all there. No one is a better play because they're paid more, or less. His wages currently reflect the player he was, not is.

i.e. Players have to take a cut at some point. He won't, and we won't get him, but it sounds like the kind of dumb shit we'd do, so I'm just making a point, we'd be stupid to pay it and undermine the other top-earners.

TLDR; He's not worth what he was. But he's still good enough to play a part.

p.s. For the record, giving players a pay bump has rarely meant an uptick in form (albeit briefly until the headlines fade).
Players tend to be underpaid early in their careers and overpaid at the end of their careers. That being the case, they've a right to take advantage of being overpaid - the clubs are always happy to take advantage of young underpaid players.

If you want an experienced, proven squad, you're going to overpay. That's just the way of the world.

I'd say 40 million is fair in today's crazy market.

He might be not have an all round game of the highest quality but he delivers in end product.

Fucking right somebody should pay for that.

Depends how we look at it. As fans I’d go with what you say but Levy would look at his book value of being £20/25m and want to make a small profit on top, so that’s why I say £30m. I’m assuming ENIC will be of the same mindset.

If he's a bad as everyone round here claims, no-one is gonna pay 30/40m.......

Same waffle every season... "Player X is shit...... Pay me!"
