Ex-Spurs Player Brennan Johnson

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

If it's that easy, why isn't every winger getting 20 goals a season? Only Bale and Son have scored more from the wings for Spurs in Premier League history.
Did you actually watch any of the games?! 😂

Last season is an anomaly in his stats. We scored a lot of back post goals last season because of the system that was being played.

We also conceded a huge number of goals for the same reason!

Not a player that would ever get close to starting for a title winning club, or even a title challenging one. Certainly suited to start for a mid table club like Palace, Everton, Sunderland, etc.

*checks league table.

Oh. Hang the fuck on…..

You're saying that if we want to be a mid-table club, Johnson is the perfect player. So why would you want to keep him? We don't want to be a mid-table club.

We need to take the nice fee being offered for this very limited player, and move on.

I would be willing to wager that if he moves in Jan, he will outscore all of Spurs strikers this season.

Selling a 24 year old, 20 goal a season winger feels like madness. Replaced by a guy that scored 3 in 24 games, and is gassed after 60 minutes. It's no surprise his family have asked for a transfer.
How much do you actually want to bet?

Or is this another Ange is going to win the Prem and Champions league at Man City wager?

If Johnson has rejected Palace (if), then I hope he also states he wants to fight for his place.

But equally why would he want to join a club soon to lose their captain and possibly their manager, as well as Wharton in the next year or so? Where would that leave him if a new manager comes in with a change of ideology?

I think there are bigger issues to put right than selling Johnson but equally if I were him I would wait until a club with some stability came knocking.

Surprised to see some people suggesting it is wrong to get rid of Johnson.

I'd wager a bet he never replicates last seasons goal scoring again in his entire career.

As a club, you need to be able to evaluate if a players output was a one off, and you also need to work out whether his goal contributions outweigh all the negatives.

Johnson was hands down one of the worst attacking players I've seen play for Spurs in a long time particularly relevent to the fee we paid also. He was horrible. Not only was he a terrible footballer, he was meek and lacked courage too. This isn't a slight on him, he comes across as a nice guy.

But as a footballer he was shite. Yet the enigma with him was he would have the occasional game where he'd play well but then he'd disappear for another couple of months, yet at the same time still pop up and score goals fairly regularly.

At the end of the day, you can't have a player who contributes nothing, and only contributes goals, because the goals will dry up, he isn't a Salah or a Kane who will always score regardless, he isn't that good. If you want to build a complete competitive team you need more well rounded technical players. I lost count the number of times, playing with Johnson in the side was like playing with ten men.

You only have to look at the type of clubs in for him now to see his level. These are clubs that will accomodate his weaknesses and try to maximise his strengths, but top clubs don't do that. It's why City are signing Semenyo and not Johnson.

I think he'd suit Palace playing off Mateta as a shadow striker type of role, but I said a few months ago he would be the first player out the door for me and I am glad the club felt the same.

The stats back up what the eyes tell me

He is among the worst in so many categories, he's just such a poor footballer.

Nah just wanted certain saddos to cry for a bit.

Tbh I wouldn't blame Brennan if he did. I think it would also be to his credit if he accepted the move to go and play.

I've said Brennan will score plenty of goals wherever he goes and I stand by that. The fact that there is interest from Palace, Bournemouth, Villa, and Everton tells us plenty about the quality of the player.

The same people that hate on Brennan, regularly wax lyrical about attacking players from 3/4 of those clubs.

There's a couple here shilling for Johnson and making a big deal about his '20 goal season ' form but a quick search tells you they were prodigious Ange die hards in the face of all logic..Then own up to their error and say 'yes he was out his depth' then are back blowing smoke about how he was after all a winner. They are needy clowns who desperately crave the thrill of being the center of a hopeless lost cause.

Tune them out block if necessary, its not about wanting Spurs to be better, or going to or watching the games for them, its become a proxy for an actual identity. Even Frank has seen through the utility of Johnson’s back post finish and knows more is required, they threw up similar outrage and denial when we said the board would fired Ange post Bilboa, it wasn't enough no matter how much noise they made and similarly Johnson is finished as a Spurs starter. Thank you for memories. Onwards and upwards.

It was a bit tongue in cheek to be honest.

I like Johnson, but know he has glaring weaknesses. He’s not good enough for our club if we want to be challenging near the top of the league, but we aren’t that club right now. Far, far from it.

But to be the first guy out the door, when there are deserving cases for this accolade throughout our squad? Not sure that’s for the best. Seems to be a few sides in for him though. A manager I’d love here, Emery, seems keen. Others being lauded on here, Glasner and Iriola both looking interested. Wonder what these guys know that we all don’t?

Doubt we’ll get that many suitors for others in our squad.

Their better ones yes lmao, not the one they want as a rotation option. Calm down mate they think he’s a rotation with Sarr.

He’s nowhere close to a Watkins or a Rogers, he could be a substitute at these clubs or a starter for Bournemouth if they sell semenyo (hell of a downgrade though).

35m would be a Palace transfer record. That's not going on a back up.

Bournemouth are obviously replacing Semenyo.

Villa don't have a RW.

The insults for posters/fans who recognise Johnson's goalscoring are weird.

No one that I can see is saying Johnson is a very good footballer as opposed to having that irritating habit of being in the right place at the right time. Not overly dissimilar to Lineker in some respects.

This isn't actually about a grand desire to keep Johnson as opposed to saying other players, who actually provide lees should be looked at first for the exit door.

And when posters start saying look at the quality of the teams who are reportedly after Johnson, then a way smile appears on my face.

Villa, who sit where in the PL, with who as their manager? Everton who are where? Bournemouth, who have a manager many on here would want to manage us. Palace, who up to a month ago had a manager many on here lauded. So one wonders what each would do with Johnson if they were our incumbent.

I mean the bloody irony.
