Ex-Spurs Player Brennan Johnson

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Maybe it would save everyone a lot of time if we believe that harry7 errored in not including circa, around or about in his 20 goals a season post?

Well he's only ever done that (all comps) once......

Massive (dishonest) stretch to call BJ a "20 goals per season" player.

Unless we are ok to call Solanke a 20 EPL goals per season ST too?

The insults for posters/fans who recognise Johnson's goalscoring are weird.

No one that I can see is saying Johnson is a very good footballer as opposed to having that irritating habit of being in the right place at the right time. Not overly dissimilar to Lineker in some respects.

This isn't actually about a grand desire to keep Johnson as opposed to saying other players, who actually provide lees should be looked at first for the exit door.

And when posters start saying look at the quality of the teams who are reportedly after Johnson, then a way smile appears on my face.

Villa, who sit where in the PL, with who as their manager? Everton who are where? Bournemouth, who have a manager many on here would want to manage us. Palace, who up to a month ago had a manager many on here lauded. So one wonders what each would do with Johnson if they were our incumbent.

I mean the bloody irony.

Are Villa actually in for him? All I see are rumours and nothing concrete.

The only concrete clubs in for him so far are Bournemouth and Palace who naturally want him as he more easily fits into their budget.

Fact is no top club wants him either here or abroad.

I saw him at West Ham and didn't think he was special, aside from the odd glory goal. And some of the dribbling we have seen.

I want him to do well because he is our player. What I don't like is the favouritism and presumption that he needs better players around him, amd yet none of that same argument is applied to Johnson, who definitively would score goals in a system more suited to his obvious qualities.

So I get it. New manager new ideas, and making decisions.

The risk is that the manager isn't right or the right fit. Then what? We have lost a goalscirer who just needs to be utilised differentky and instead got a blind alley dribbler. Strewth.

There's no favouritsm. Johnson is just pure shit. One of the worst footballers I've seen to wear a Spurs shirt. Kudus is a better player end of story. Yeah you can say maybe Frank prefers one over the other, that is his perogative as manager, and you can also not rate Kudus, nobody is saying he's amazing, but he is clearly better than Johnson.

I don't get the revision, it was pretty well agreed Johnson was a terrible footballer, and we got mugged off by Forest at 50 million, now he's off, and some fans are moaning because he scores goals. His goal scoring isn't actually that impressive over his career, especially when he contributes nothing else and can't even keep the ball.

If Levy was still here Johnson wouldn't be going anywhere for this fee, no matter what the manager wanted

We used to be so bad at moving players out

People are saying this without bringing into context that our sales went poor when we hired people like Paratici to do this role

When it was literally just Levy, we were selling crap players for big money (e.g. Wimmer, Bentaleb, Mason, Chadli) and people were meme'ing it. We bought Stambouli (one of the worst midfielders we've signed) and managed to sell him back to PSG for 50% more than we paid, back then.

In more recent times though, regardless of who people want to point it at, we got £15m for Emerson Royale, which is a similar level or sale to Johnson (% recouped), except Royal proved he wasn't good enough for this league. We got £20m for Skipp, who has probably lost 80% of that value since.

We even made a profit on Bergwijn

Spot on, with a minor correction.

I’d probably refer to Johnson as a 20 goal last season player. Or top scorer.

He didn’t get 20.

He’s not presently our top scorer.

But both get a slide for me. If he’s scored 16 last season, I’d probably round down to 15.

Plenty to get on posters and Johnson’s backs about that trump “ahem, well, I think you’ll find….” posts.

People are making a bit of a big deal over a bit of syntax. Just pixels on a screen. But then so is my response. So what the fuck am I doing?

As long as we replace him with someone better then I have no problem. I won’t hold my breath though .

That's all it comes down to. Personally I'll be a bit 'sad' to see him go because of his goals last season and obviously the big one he scored. But like most fans I imagine, it's just a sentiment. I dont really give a shit. If we sell him and sign someone decent I'll say it was good. If we sell him and don't, same old story.

A post above somewhere questioned why no elite clubs are after BJ. There's not many Spurs players elite clubs would be in for.

Good post.

For not many read probably
none, although I don't think they are anywhere as bad as gaslighting Frank suggests, to mask a sh!t run

If Palace stick Brennan in a front 2 with Mateta, he is going to feast.

And it still will mean that we have made the correct decision to sell him.

Bilbao was incredible, and I’ll never forget him and that chant.

However we can’t be sentimental and I’m glad that we’re making a ruthless decision. He’s just not technically good enough, and are squad is full of too many of them.

Dragusin
Palhinha
Bentancur
Richarlison

Maybe even Danso.

Sacrifices have to be made, and Brennan’s value was only going to drop from here.

Beggs the question why we at least never once tried him at CF in a 442 type system. 10/15 years ago Johnson would have been a top.striker, it's sad how these type of players are becoming obsolete

Good luck to Brennan. Bilbao is a nice legacy for him.

And it’s great to see the club acknowledging that players need to be moved on if the manager doesn’t fancy them. Hopeful this is something that they have learnt needs to be the norm.

Leads me to believe Frank is going to be given a bit of time and money to mould his own squad too.
Agree but hopefully we have lined up an immediate replacement

Because in the greatest of ironies (considering their bond off the pitch), the 4-4-2 would have restricted Maddison and at least in the Ange years, I would have picked Son ahead of him for that role.

The vulnerability of 4-4-2 is that you can easily lose control of the midfield and the 2nd striker was the sacrifice. These types of players either adapt into full time CF’s on their own or become scoring wingers.

We never have control of the midfield anyway 🤣
There are ways around playing 2 strikers we have done it twice Vs PSG already this season with good results performance wise.
Football works in cycles it will only take one fashionable high profile coach to start playing 2 CFs successfully again and all the other sheep will follow

Glad that he got a raucous send off from the away fans at Palace. He gave a lot to the club and worked well at times with Madders and Sonny. Crucial goals to help us get the EL last year. Wish him well.
