Ex-Spurs Player Brennan Johnson

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

People are saying this without bringing into context that our sales went poor when we hired people like Paratici to do this role

When it was literally just Levy, we were selling crap players for big money (e.g. Wimmer, Bentaleb, Mason, Chadli) and people were meme'ing it. We bought Stambouli (one of the worst midfielders we've signed) and managed to sell him back to PSG for 50% more than we paid, back then.

In more recent times though, regardless of who people want to point it at, we got £15m for Emerson Royale, which is a similar level or sale to Johnson (% recouped), except Royal proved he wasn't good enough for this league. We got £20m for Skipp, who has probably lost 80% of that value since.

We even made a profit on Bergwijn

Good to move him on. He isn’t good enough for what we aspire to be. Can’t imagine him getting into any of the top squads. Maybe a 6th/7th attacker for someone like Villa but that’s his peak.

He’d be more impactful on a bottom half side that plays on the break. And he might score 5-10 league goals per season. But hes just not at this level unless he improves his overall game and it hasn’t happened.

I totally understand that Johnson doesn't suit franks system, and if he's not going to play to his strengths, he should be moved on.

However, we know that Kudus, Odobert aren't ever going to be double digit goal scorers. We have lost Son, and now Johnson.

Where are the goals expected to come from? Will Spurs be able to sign a goal scorer, given that European football looks unlikely for next season at this point?

I'm also concerned that Kulu (arguably Spurs best player) won't fit in Franks system, and we will end up with yet another Adama Traore clone on the wings.

That is a legit question - we simply don't have enough goals in the side atm. Despite him being absolutely infuriating, Rich has been putting up good goalscoring numbers and Frank does traditionally get a lot of goals out of his number 9s, so I think we'll need a lot of goals from either him or RKM for the remainder of the season.

I think signing a LW with better end product than Odobert is our most likely additional source of goals. We also need Xavi to be contributing more - hard to see him having less impact in the 2nd half of the season than the 1st.

I think keeping BJ in the vain hope he'd start banging them in would be a much worse option than selling him, though. We need to just cut our losses and move on from him - even with the goals he arguably does more harm than good to us as an overall team.

Ah that whole chestnut. What's funny, really, is that you can't believe Levy was sacked and still, simultaneously believe that he was the ultimate decision maker.

All of it, by that mechanism, goes right up to the Lewis's. So that's your answer.

What we aspire to be, which we are nowhere near to being.

It's so funny.

Who cares?

He’s not good enough. What’s funny is you just love to play devils advocate so now you are randomly on the BJ train.

Anyone claiming the end is near because we sold Brennan Johnson is fucking bonkers.

Nope, I just find it funny that so many are aboard selling Johnson, without any sense of seeing what a replacement looks like, or indeed if we are going to get a replacement.

And my concern is that Frank sanctions the sale and purchases, where I have seen nothing that gives me confidence in his decision-making.

Ok. He’s gone and good luck to the guy.

However, where is the replacement within the squad? Without some back up we will be light again for the busiest part of the season, that makes no sense to me. Can we even add anyone to the Champions League squad with 3 games still to go ? What if Kudas pulls up ? There is nothing on the left or right in that senairo.

The deal screams of ENIC clearing the balance of the debt owed to Forest, not clearing the way for reinforcements.

Obviously hope I am misreading the situation and someone ( two minimum) is coming over the hill. 🔜

BJ has not contributed at all this season. His departure isn’t going to make us worse.

I don’t know what the replacement looks like but there’s a chance they won’t be mediocre. BJ is 100% a mediocre player that hasn’t improved in the 2.5 seasons weve had him.
