I dont get the Paqueta links

If hes a 10 what about Simmons?
What about him?

If we haven't had a bid accepted for a player by the end of next week, you have to once again conclude that we entered the transfer window without a strategy.

I just don't understand how, a squad that is in need of strengthening can sell players before securing better replacements.

I mean is there anything comprehensible about this club at the present time.

If hes an 8 what about Sarr, Bergval, Gray,Bentancur...?

Just dont see how we need him

Club might be in a mess in terms of attracting players even with money. This isn’t Poch Spurs or Redknapp Spurs, we are way down the list for top players now.

Hence the links to Diomande a brilliant but raw winger and this link for a very talented but troubled player. Paqueta was going to Man City a few seasons ago and during the summer nearly joined Villa. He is ability wise miles ahead of Sarr, Bergvall, Gray and Bentancur. The issue is since the gambling issue and West Ham falling to pieces he appears to have downed tools.

So you have a player when focused is an elite CM who in theory could match anyone at Woolwich, City or Pool in CM but has shown he also in a bad environment like West Ham will simply give up. Hence the signing would either be a masterstroke that gets us an elite CM or a disaster.

Problem is we are pushed towards these type of deals because post Poch we have been so badly run and now we aren’t that attractive to players. So we are in the market for elite kids and troubled stars.

Paqueta would be a waste of more money. He might want a payday with the benefit of a new contract, but a player like him won't take us forewad one jot and is not part of any long-term strategy.

Paqueta is a nothing player, who has never struck me as anything special.

We need clarity of thought on next steps, and we have to find players who are good enough to carry us through the next 3 or 4years.

Part of the issue as I see it is we have a manager who is looking unikely to be part of that rebuild, so what do we do now?

And our environment is better than West Ham. We are a graveyard for players. Id rather give a few of the academy players a chance.

Honestly 200M needs to be spent this january to buy a quality striker and 1 or 2 quality playmakers/winger

Never going to happen though

We don't need to spend that much this month (and can't)

What we do need is to sensibly bolster the squad. A central midfielder who is expected to start games and a striker are priorities in my mind. Where they are who knows.

Why we are selling players without any glimmer (it seems) of reinforcements is mystifying.

We owe nearly 300m in transfer fees and have about 60m owed to us. That's 240m on the credit card that has to be paid at some point in the next couple of seasons. We still have stadium loans to pay and won't have income from European football next season. I don't know why people think an investment company with that balance sheet are going to spend more money.
All those are not our problems to worry. This club is in the top 10 richest club. We are one of the best run clubs in terms of debts and revenue. And our wages are peanuts. We are long overdue on spending on players.

I disagree. If the board are remotely contemplating sacking him, and lets hope they are, then they need to keep what limited funds we have for the next guy. I wouldn't even give him the Johnson money. Frank can spend another 200m and the end result will be exactly what you're looking at now. He's out of his depth and needs to be put out of his misery.
Surely the DOFs should identify an identity for the club, and get players and managers that continue with that identity, insomuch the players and the manager will be a match. Our problem is we're hiring managers that have entirely different styles. When Levy made that statement a few years ago after sacking Mourninho, about free flowing football, we should have only bought such players and hired such managers, then it doesn't matter who the next manager will be as per his style will be suitable for the squad.
