I don’t think Gray is showing anything to be brutally honest. I don’t care whether he’s 18 or 34 he’s offering very little. I don’t get why people want to make out he’s anything other than average just now. He might improve but he’ll never be a top midfield player. He’s not good enough at things you need from a midfielder. Bentancur is better player than him.
how is bentancur a better player? by going sideways and backwards? bentancur offers fuck all! hes a big reason as to why we cant get on top of teams, yes theres other factors too, but hes a big one and hes in the most important position on the pitch, playing coward football!
I don’t think Bentancur is brilliant but I’d rather be in there with him than Archie. I don’t see the potential in Archie that I see in Bergvall. He has no real attributes apart from he’s a fit boy but that’s a given. This needing legs and mobility in centre midfield is overrated. All our players get about well enough but they are one paced and can’t play. We need a guy that can pass the ball and slow it down and quicken it up when the time is right. I watched Xhaka in the second half today and he was exactly that. If we signed a player that was in his late 20s or early 30s this fucking place would have a meltdown. We need men that can play the game and not kids like Gray or Sarr or older ones like Paulinha and Bentancur that all do the same thing. Bergvall playing as a centre midfielder with a guy that can dictate the game will take him up a level. Xavi will become a better player with that type too. Maybe when Madders comes back he might have to change his game and be able to play that role. We have too many of the exact same no risk footballers in midfield.
Hilarious that he brought on Palhinha, paired him with Bentancur, and Sunderland still cut through so easily. Romero made a misjudgement but the “protection” was non-existent.

bentancur is a constant feature in our midfield problems, thats not a coincidence. i think the people that are clinging onto him being a good player are fooled by him looking neat and tidy while doing sweet fuck all, when he does try and actually play a productive pass, he fucks it up.
