Vinai leaves me cold

I get more of a spark from Peter Charrington , I reckon he has a devilish side underneath that serious exterior

Yeah that's the face of a man with a humiliation fetish if ever I've seen one.

Among the many things my Gooner mate (who I'm desperately trying to avoid) is bantering me about is that we hired one of their "cast offs" who "doesn't understand the football side".

It's like we're being trolled by ENIC at this point.

I dont care if he knows about the football side or not - I just care that he gets the right people in the right positions who do

If anything, Levy being too close to the football side has proven to be a real hindernace in the past

The fact that we didn't have attacking players lined up the day the window opened was bad enough.

The fact that we sold our top scorer at a loss while desperately short of options was also terrible optics.

But the straw that broke the camels back is that we are linked with a Levy esque Brazilian right back KID, the only bit of business tells you everything you need to know.

Meet the new bald boss, same as the old bald boss.

Except we're not, because to troll us they'd have to know what's good and what's bad in order to deliberately choose the bad option.

They don't know enough about football to know what they don't know, and so we end up with ludicrous DoF situations with one crook and one charisma-less nerd that got sent packing from an at the time poor Aston Villa.

We end up with a totally sub-par medical team working in our shiny club facility, and on realising how inept they were, we replaced them with an even more inept crew.

We end up with a scouting department that overlooks Alex Scott for £25m, and Adam Wharton for £20m whilst we were busy fucking Blackburn over and pinching Ashley Williams via a loophole so that he could sit in our reserves and be loaned out to donkeys for 5 years until we release him to resume his career, and then they go out and splurge £40m on Archie Gray.

The scary part is that I really do believe this is them trying, they're just absolute morons.

He is charisma-less although I don’t think charisma is a job qualification for his position. In his time at villa, they consolidated from a relegation threaten team so, no, he didn’t do a poor job. He is doing a poor job now.

Agreed.

Cherry picking. With 20-20 hindsight. This board is screaming for the recruitment team to stay away from punts on young players. Every team is going to miss out unsuccessful transfers from lower divisions and 19 teams in the Prem aren’t gonna get them in the first place.
I’m more concerned with the money we have wasted on supposedly high-end quality players like Rich Charlison, Solanki and Simons.

You're right

We should of gone for Sol Anki but I reckon we pivoted because of his first name.

Depends on how you look at it, do you really not think I could go through each and every one of our transfer dealings and find some more signings made that have underwhelmed, as well as alternative players that moved at similar times for less and have produced more?

Rather than cherry pick I feel like I've just chosen one example from many options.

I don't even dislike Gray, he's just very meh, whilst Wharton and Scott are standing out as excellent players for their respective sides at a combined cost of not much more than Gray cost us.

The one variable that I'll give you that maybe we should go easier on the scouting department for is that they have no control over what happens with a player when signed, heck they really don't even have any control over who we actually do sign, they just make the recommendations. But I digress, there's every chance that had we signed Scott and or Wharton, and Gray had gone elsewhere, then we'd have totally ruined Scott/Wharton, and Gray would be shining for someone else and being linked with a £100m move.

On Lange, I'm pretty sure a bit of charisma helps in swaying players to join the club, the guy was out-aura'd by Levy when we signed Tel for goodness sake.

I’ll see your Scott and raise one Bergvall who was cheaper. Yes, you are cherry-picking.
We tried Jack Clarke, remember?
Failures on players like Clarke don’t hamper us. They’re young, cheap and can be sold on. It’s the expensive failures like N’Dombele and LoCelso that really tie our hands. We have players at the club now that , realistically, aren’t good enough, and are going to be incredibly hard to move.

....yeah, and we gave them one of OUR cast offs in 2001....
:cunt:

...and snatched 2 of their Superstars from right under their noses...
:gallashmm::adeohshit:
So who's laughing now??
:mourcry::vdvcry::avbshit::dierno::ange-facepalm2:

Fucking Gooner cunts....

Well no, it's having a squad full of shit players that hampers us, whatever they cost.

You cite Bergval, but he plays only intermittently and if we're honest apart from hype and a being industrious, actual provides very little when he does.

You admit that we have players at the club who aren't very good and will be hard to move, do you not realise that statement in itself is an indictment of the scouting??

How many of our players have appreciated in value since signing?

Fee and wages are a huge part of what makes a player sellable or unsellable. Not being able to sell a (senior) player means he occupies a (limited) squad place or we have to take a bath on subsidizing loans or permanent moves. Younger, cheaper players are easier to move and the losses smaller. Jack Clarke vs Tanguy N’Dombele. The idea that you can just get rid of shit that clutters your squad is ‘football manager’ stuff.

Most opinion suggests otherwise.
He was our player of the season last year.

All clubs make bad buys.
City or United can write off an expensive bad buy far easier than we can. Having an extra £200m a year helps with that. They can write off an Anthony. Not helped by ownership that wants to recoup every penny on every bad deal.

Obviously, I’d rather us make fewer mistakes and our recruiting since 2019 has been mostly poor in that we’ve overpaid for average players.
