Maybe - but their keeper made an excellent save last night so we should have been walking it. Our keeper made no saves. We have two options when assessing last night's game
- Vicario should have kept at least one of their goals out (apparently you should expect him to save any)
- Petrovic should have not saved at least VDV's header (one which you shouldn't expect him to have saved)
More so, comparing the team we put out and the form they are in, it's crazy to think that some people would take Iraola.
None of this is a "pro-Frank" comment, or a defence of Frank - I think everyone can agree it was one of our best performances, which might not be saying much, but he still outdid Iraola.
We had:
- More possession
- More shot, and more on target
- More passes, and higher pass completion %
- More xG
I'm not necessarily seeing a team that is overall dropping points justifiably - I'm seeing a team that is conceding goals from nothing, if not manufacturing conceding goals, that is not getting the rub of the green with referees, and that has fine margins between it being 2-0 up or 1-0 down.
Something clearly isn't working, whether or not it's player ability, dressing room/attitude issues, or lacking the killer touch that Deki, Maddison and Solanke have.
Again, this isn't me saying Frank is good or should stay, but the margins between us winning and losing have been so fine recently in terms of the actual football. I'm not seeing the absolute batterings that we had under late Conte/Stellini or last season where we were clining on for dear life and only scoring off counter attacks.
What I would reiterate is how I'm totally not seeing why people would want Iraola
