Transfers The Winter Transfer Thread - 25/26

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

The stupidity of every single transfer window is in full bloom.

Yesterday's rousing second half performance means very little. We lost, again. Something ignited, like the Demagorgom by the previous incumbent and unchanged by Frank.

For whatever reason we have playerscwho cannot play well for 90 minutes. Not good enough, and that's on the manager, full stop.

We need to fuel the squad with something by Saturday, just to give everyone a lift. Who that is or might be completely escapes me. Not my job but it is my pain.

If ENIC are in any way aware of how important next weekend's match is,they willl open this fabled war chest and make offers other clubs and prospective targets can't refuse.

We shall see.

It's incredible to me how the board continue to back Frank.

They must be seeing something that is completely absent to many.

Frank will not be able to say he wasn't given a reasonable if not excessive amount of time that's for sure

I think it's a few things

Some paralysis by analysis, they seem to be overthinking it

Also there's the optics, I think they're desperate to not have to pull the plug - but it's at a tipping point where they probably don't have a choice

I hope the delay is they've been lining up a replacement ready to go but that feels fanciful

Get ready for plenty of press rumours about Romero & van de Ven joining some "big" clubs...

Liverpool have reportedly been handed a major transfer boost as one of their long-term targets in the form of Micky van de Ven is open to joining them.

The Tottenham defender, who can play centre-back or left-back, was first looked at quite closely by Liverpool during his time at his former club Wolfsburg.

Now fresh reports claim Van de Ven is considering his future at Spurs and would be keen on the chance to move to Anfield.

Van de Ven has shone during his time in the Premier League, and it seems clear he’s capable of playing at a higher level than this unconvincing Tottenham side.

Micky van de Ven could be the ideal long-term replacement for Virgil van Dijk at Liverpool

He might be open to going to them, I doubt we'll be open to selling to them

Good luck with that one vdv 😆

Two things on that.

I don't think we will see anything akin to a marquee signing.

I have seen so little (nothing really) in Frank that gives me confidence that if he had a stronger squad that he would get the optimum out of them. Just seems to be Mr Stato.

I,m certain that we will :

We all thought Levy leaving would lead to a new dawn.

Instead the new regime (albeit still ENIC) are still only interested in profit and no interest in onfield success. Levy obviously was a problem, but until we get all of ENIC out we are heading to a mid-table club.

Highlighting our clear need for a progressive passer in CM, The Athletic suggest Stilller…

How does a progressive passer help yesterday in the first half when the instructions were to just boot the ball in the air from back to front. One player is not making a difference to the defensive cowardly tactics.

Yes Stiller would be perfect if we had Xavi as manager, but not for Frank

Its the other way round.
Fact that we dont have a progressive passer, we are booting the ball long. Vicario can certainly play short passes as he showed under Ange

Ange was a different manager, different tactics. Of course he wanted us to play out from the back and we did by default even though we didn't have a progressive passer in the middle.

Frank prefers to play the percentages and hit it long from the back no matter who is in our midfield. That first half was an absolute disgrace from Frank

The second half proved we can play out from the back like the last couple of seasons.

Agree, but having a deep lying midfielder who wants the ball would probably mean we pass it to him sometimes instead of booting it long. Palinha, Bent, Gray don't really offer for the ball

Could we all stop being so negative and suggest who we could sign.
Gallagher and Hackney, play them with Palhinha sitting behind and Simons at 10, then two up top from Rich, RKM, Tel, Solanke, Odobert.

Width from the fullbacks, Djed never allowed to play on the left again.

Wouldn't make us CL winners but at least we might begin to resemble a competent football team again and get some goals from our forwards, and compensates for the fact our "wingers" are inept on the wing.

Aim to qualify for Conference League next season and go balls out to win that at a canter to keep up the trophy feelgood vibes.

Gallagher is the Frank litmus test imo

A very Frank player

We get him = we're trying to support Frank imo
In fairness mate, Gallagher was very much a player Ange wanted too, desperately.

He’s not amazing technically but he’s not anywhere near as bad as people on here make out. He’d be a competent signing at £30m or so. Doesn’t fix our passing issue but gives us a bit of leadership and drive in the middle of the park.

You’d like to think Bentancur and Bissouma will be gone soon, so he’d be a replacement/upgrade on them. Replacing the two of them with one competent homegrown midfielder and room to sign a better passing midfielder is a net positive in my opinion.

I know we've a long standing interest, but right now it feels like he's pure Frank - get him and change manager - chance are getting doesn't fit well

I don’t think even our higher ups would be as stupid as to sign players purely for Thomas Frank. Fucking Stevie Wonder can see he’s a dead man walking.

He’s a homegrown player of reasonable ability and a good attitude, in his peak years, at a good price. Unless we’re planning to hire Maresca, I’d guess most incoming managers would be quite happy to have him even as a squad player.

Pochettino - a manager that a sizeable portion of the fanbase want back, would have Gallagher here in a minute, he was his best player at Chelsea.

He’s nowhere near as bad as people on here make out.

Frank ain’t gonna be here much longer. You’re not signing him for Frank, you’re signing him as a present to whoever the next manager is.

Whoever that ends up being, I’d sincerely hope it isn’t another terrorist-ball disciple, so we will need at least one midfielder who can actually pass the ball.

Stiller would be a great signing, and is about as good a player as we can find to fit that role that’s actually gettable (Wharton ain’t coming here).

If we actually do have money to spend in this window, as has been teased, £50m probably gets Stiller. That’s not an unreasonable ask of our owners for a player that solves a lot of our issues, which have been caused by their neglect.
