Transfers The Winter Transfer Thread - 25/26

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

I know they've lost significant personal recently, but can't see Palace entertaining Wharton leaving any time soon. Glasner decided to soften the blow of losing Guehi by announcing he was off in the summer too, the fans are on their knees. No way they sell their next best, unless it's a massive offer

Yeah palace are getting gutted it feels like, need to move fast if we really want him.
Palace get gutted every year but not by guys with three or four years left on their contract while they’re still in Europe.

They’re not selling for anything less than Declan Rice money and even then they would be mad to do it. If you’re sold for £100m then you expect a commensurate salary (£300k per).

Honestly, I don’t think they should do this in Summer if they want to attract a half-decent manager.
I’m pretty certain that Glasner quit as he’s fed up with all the gutting . He’ll probably go to United and insist on Wharton (£100m-plus?). .

Really think Wharton would be another really expensive mistake. Same with N’Diaye. Theyre moments players. Whartons a stroller people get seduced by one or two eye catching passes. He’s not fancied for England and I’d bet no big teams will seriously go in for him. Big flaws in his all round game.

N’Diaye one or two bits of nice skill but no where near involved or effective enough for the prices being talked about.
I don't watch enough football to know whether we should buy Wharton. But I'm old enough to remember Carrick not playing for England when I watched lots more football and never controlling games.

Whether you want him signed or not doesn't change the fact that if, they won't, but if they were to get him, it'd be a massive statement of intent, and would eclipse our transfer record, on a player converted by the big boys.

That's the type of signings we should be making, but, we won't.

For 100 million, neither should we.

He is no Declan Rice. Good player no question but I see our needs elsewhere right now.

I see one problem with signing Wharton and that’s you will have to build whoever partners him in a deeper role completely around him because he is lacking defensively. Ideally you’d want a Dembele/Wanyama type next to him to balance it out. Someone very strong defensively but also good on the ball or vice versa. Personally I’d rather we sign a more defensively strong young no.6 like Baleba or Anderson, so you don’t have to sign another player to make him work and I do believe that is the case. Wharton would not work for us as a stand alone signing. If we plan to build a balanced midfield and sign someone to compliment him then fine but he will not solve all our problems on his own like some think.

Can't remember whether I posted this before but it's fucking concerning.

Rob Mackenzie was around at the start of our recruitment demise a few years ago. I remember posting stuff about him scouting Vincent Jansen.

He claims last summers window was an "objective success" and claims players like Tel fitted a "tried and Tested" remit.

I think palace will consider selling all their assets for the right price, with their new stadium build just approved they will need every penny they can get. Asset like Wharton will go a long way to contributing to the building fund. I can see them entertaining an offer now. Let’s see what happens

You need much more than just being a passer. That’s all he is really and being a left footer sort of makes it look better. He’s terrible off the ball and that’s in a palace side that is deep and compact. On our big pitch he’d be getting run past all day. You can’t dismiss that side of his game.

We’ve become obsessed by a passer but there’s way more that goes into being a good midfielder/team than that. What really good teams have had a player like that? Especially in England?
Glen Hoddle could not tackle and got run past very easily . Not saying Wharton is his level , he lacks the goal threat but Hoddle hops into this team if he only has one leg

I loved Carrick but he was brilliant off the ball as well, so many interceptions, his reading of the game was great and he covered the ground deceptively well too. Good ball carrier great passer off both feet as well. I don’t think Whartons anywhere near as good as Carrick imo.

In the summer the general feeling was we need a dribbler on the wing , everyone saw the compilations of Kudus, the moments and the stats and ignored or didn’t see all the flaws in his game. Now we’re watching it every week it’s not the answer.

It’s similar now to just looking for a passer. We need a really good player, who’s press reitant, mobile, good feet, can carry the ball fairly well and with good vision and decent passing and good off the ball. Most things really good with a couple of very good attributes You can’t just look for one thing imo.

I’ve seen it said that we’ll have a bit of everything, but when someone’s running passed Wharton you can’t transport Gallagher there and vice versa when Gallaghers on the ball trying to find a pass. They have to actually do that.

I have this concern but his on ball play is superb and what we desperately need
