We finished top 6 more often than not because of the two world class players we had. We now have none. We have a smattering of top class players, but nobody that is world class.

If we were going to sack him, and, by the end, I did feel that it was the correct decision, we should have gone for someone with a proven record that was a demonstrable upgrade. Instead we went for a manager with no relevant experience of managing a big club, with no experience of European competition football, who had never won anything, on the speculation that he was a decent coach. What we got was, arguably, the worst manager in living memory.

Forest, whilst damning, isn’t a truly fair comparison. He had no pre-season, none of the players were ones he signed and he tried to get a defensive, counter attacking team to play his suicide Angeball.
