Spurs CEO Venkatesham at training ground amid Frank exit reports

Tottenham chief executive Vinai Venkatesham arrived at the training ground early on Sunday morning as speculation intensified over head coach Thomas Frank's future.

Frank is under huge pressure following Saturday's 2-1 home defeat to West Ham, which saw the Spurs fans boo the Dane and chant 'you're getting sacked in the morning'.

Frank and the players also arrived at the training ground on Sunday ahead of Tuesday's Champions League home game against Borussia Dortmund.

But whether the ex-Brentford boss is in charge of that remains to be seen.

BBC Sport are reporting that he is under significant internal scrutiny, with the club considering sacking him.
he shoud have been sacked right after the game
Once again ENIC have missed the moment, did it in jan 2016 when we need cover/extra striker to push on to be champions
did it to Harry, Conte Jose & Poch, when players were needed ENIC (Levy) went cheap or didn't bother

Really was duped into thinking Frank was going to come in with super tactics and bring the young guns up a level but week in week out it’s getting worse and the look on his face when the second goal went in said it all to me , poor bloke just looks lost .
It's the refusal to drop players that keep letting us down week in and week out.

I would rather see a youngster play, who is actually going to give some fight.

It will be kind of symbolic if the last thing he did as manager was take off a forward when we are chasing a goal and bring on a midfielder to take a long throw, then the opposition go up the other end and score.

If they decide to pull the trigger (which I think they will), they woudl be foolish to fire before they work out interim arrangements, and then focus on a permanent succession plan. Importantly, they need to ensure the succession plan involves us playing and embracing attractive, attacking football - which as they keep telling us is in the club's DNA.

Interim manager wise, the priority would simply be not getting relegated, which lends itself to another pragmatic manager, which is the last thing we need. Would someone like Xavi (with little managerial experience and no PL experience) be a risk? I am not sure Harry Redknapp is young enough / healthy enough to cope with the demands of two games a week and a high pressure job, but Harry of 10 years ago would be fantastic.

Succession wise, there are some good managers that, if they are ambitious, we can target. Would Alonso be out of our reach? He should be #1 target and we should throw silly money at him. Thomas Tuchel would be near the top of my list - and I think he is ready to leave England after the World Cup. Nagelsmann may also be available after the world Cup. I'd also happily take Poch back in the summer.

I don't necessarily agree with some of the proposed options but the general tone is one that makes a lot of sense.

The only way, aside fron lottery-like good fortune of getting it right is by having the right mix of people making the key decisions.

That is what creates the right environment as much as any amount of financial outlay.

He's done for IMO, can't get booed off by your own fans multiple games in a row and survive with results this poor. A West Ham team this shit at home who we've already trounced 3-0 this season away should have been a complete layup for Frank, he's now dropped points against the current 2 worst teams in the league, the writing is on the wall.

In my dream scenario the board acknowledge the shitshow they've presided over, show some fucking stones by hitting the reset button now while we're still in the CL and the league finish is salvageable-ish, go and bring in a forward thinking coach with PL experience like De Zerbi and back them big time with statement signings that push the current wage structure, in an ideal world I think Milan would part with Leao for £70-80m and he would sign a contract at £250-300k/week with appropriate bonuses, find a good value progressive passer in Europe who can control the tempo and bring some fluidity to our transitions and get a fucking striker who can stay fit for longer than 5 games on the trot and understands how to involve themself in build-up play and crucially, can find the back of the net.

I've zero faith we will do any of that, mind, I suspect it will be an underwhelming interim pending a Poch return backed by maybe one more permanent signing in the £30-40m and sub £100k/week wages realm and maybe an opportunistic loan-to-buy for a woefully out of sorts former hype job of European football, best case scenario they plug a gap in the immediate term and become yet another square peg in the disjointed horror show that has been the construction of this current team.

Probably has been, but they’re gonna want a succession plan before announcing shit, aren’t they?

Because within half hour people like you will be going ‘why haven’t we hired anyone yet?!’ 😂

On COYS they are saying non football people want him gone but the footballing ones, which must mean Lange, want him to stay.

Suppose that means it’s over. If there’s any truth in that then Lange has to fall on his sword too.

Vinai with his programme notes probably laid a bit of the groundwork for that.

Or…..could be all made up bollocks of course. Just passing on!
That would make sense tbf.

Isn't the word that Lange and Frank are tight and he really pushed for us to get him in? Presumably it was the football people that were pushing for Frank in the first place since Vivienne, Charlie & co are hardly gonna be choosing the manager themselves.

If the football people like Lange admit that Frank needs to walk they're basically admitting they fucked up and signing their own death warrant.

Lange is clearly incompetent at his job - he's signed a few talented kids but has completely failed to build a functional squad and now helped facilitate our worst managerial appointment in a long time. If accountability exists, he should be sacked but the problem is once he goes who is left on the football side?

They board need to appoint a new DoF but are they competent and knowledgeable enough to get a good one?

He’s got to go now, what we’re being asked to watch is as bad as anything I’ve seen for a long time. As has been flogged to death on this thread, I think most of us broadly agree that simply replacing him is not the solution. So much more is needed throughout the club.

But, replacing him would I hope more than anything, give us a chance to improve in the short term and salvage what little pride we can from the mess of this season. The new manager bounce is a cliche but it does frequently work for the first few games. My real hope, however, is that the players themselves (even the ones we know that have limited ability or character) have enough about them at least, to show that they have a point to prove and that they are better than a team that simply relies on free kicks and long throws to get results. If a new manager can tap into that at least —we may have a chance.

Before anyone says it, I know it’s the hope that kills you.

He just cannot be in charge for Tuesday. I don’t care if Heitinga, Mason whoever the fuck takes that game. It would give the whole club a lift knowing he’s gone and I’d be willing to bet we’d see much more effort from the players knowing they don’t have to play his shit football.

Lile a few others, I genuinely believed we were already talking to prospective replacements,or at least ready to go once the last remnant of doubt had been removed re: Frank.

How doubt remained I will never ever know.

I was completely wrong, and the delay in being able to bring this sorry episode to a close is proof that there was no plan other than to sit and hope.

Deary me.

Last year at the same time we were having a debate as to why we should retain Ange and the only argument left for him was that there was no one better available and appointing a caretaker would be pointless.

If that argument was sound last year it’d be sound today. The situation is the same and the players are the same, and I don’t believe there is anyone walking the earth who can get a tune out of this group.
I strongly believe that the club needs to bring in someone like Rangnick to act as DoF to overhaul the entire footballing side of the club. A new manager is just going to get eaten up by the incompetent footballing operation we have now.

As a bit of a curveball, how about if we kept Frank until the end of the season but brought in a co-manager to handle the huge deficiencies in open play? Kinda like the American Football concept.

Basically let Frank handle set plays and individual player briefings, but let someone else take over the open play side of the game. One way or another we'll be paying the guys wages, and we have looked decent on set pieces mostly.

I was one of the first here to say I didn't believe in Frank even as we were top 5. I said the results were way better than our performances, and that it was not sustainable. Also that our idea was lacking. It was so obvious that the plan was passing out to Kudus and hope for him to create some magic. All mechanical. No creativity or fluency in the attacking setup.

Really? I'm old enough enough to remember 19 days ago when you posted this:

Well done lads.

Confirmed that Danso is more solid than Romero.

Frank hasnt lost the dressing room.

We're 11th, 6 places above where we ended last season. Not great but not a disaster. Going in the right direction.

:cautious:

Starting to look like nobody has the power to make a decision

Vinai doesn’t want to admit his first big decision was wrong and the rest of the board don’t have the numbers to override him.

Dithering Heights
If he's got any sense Vinai should pin the blame on Lange (assuming Lange was heavily in favour of Frank).

Not sure that will wash given how hard Vinai was championing Frank's appointment, but it's exactly the type of political maneuvering and corporate backstabbing I'd expect.

Plus Lange is shit and really should be binned anyway.

Yup. With Paratici leaving and Lange with blood on his hands there will never be a better chance for the new board to wipe the slate clean and start afresh with a new DoF. If they stick with Lange they're backing the wrong horse and he'll just keep making mistakes.

Just gotta pray they pick the right DoF if they do go down this route.
