Mancity has spent most this window signing Semenyo for £64m
Spurs (signing Gallagher) and Palace (signing Brennan Johnson) tie in 2nd place at about £35m spent each.
Other clubs are well behind, with most clubs not signing anyone anyone yet.
There really are not that many decent players available (hence lack of signings by other PL clubs) - so we may want/need a progressive passing CM and goal scoring forward etc its going to be a struggle to find decent players in competition with other clubs better than we already have. Still hoping for the forward and CM ..... but !

If we'd signed him instead Gallagher, sure. But we need a deep lying player, he's another 8. Either way, Gallagher was an enormous waste of money, and on that length of contract and likely being a top earner, he's going to be here for a long time because getting rid of him will be impossible. Complete scatter gun approach. Waste of time.
He knows that league inside out. Much less pressure there than in the PL or La Liga. Frankfurt are a solid club, with good people making sound decisions more often than not. Can pay him a fat wage...knowing he's just got a big treasure chest of Real. They're 7th in the Bundesliga, can easily claim a top 3-4 spot by end of May. Been crap in the CL (30th outta 36) but could still clinch a playoff spot, especially if they beat...humhum...Spurs at their gaff on Jan 28th. Also, say Liverpool sack Slot in the summer or Kompany moves to City, well Xabi could easily leave Frankfurt and take over at Anfield or Bayern.

Anyone criticising the signing of Gallagher, after one game or in general terms really needs to ask for a refund from whoever they are seeing or ask for an advance to go and see someone.

He isn't what is needed. He's a slight upgrade on Bentancur. But Bentancur wasn't the right type of midfielder. Of you think that Gallagher changes absolutely anything on terms of us being able to have any measure of control, in a Frank set up, should probably get a refund from whoever they're seeing, or ask for an advance to go and see someone.
Pep's had him on the wing the vast majority of the time.
What makes it toxic? A little self-awareness and honesty from both owners and supporters might help.
They're talking shit. They wanted him, made up a big load of PR shpeal to make it sound like they didn't act on instinct again and makes it look like they had a clear direction and vision. Should've been obvious it was made up bullshit after the circus transfer window that followed.
You can only tell after a couple of years really.
I think the issue is there is simply no vision from the back room of this football club. No one knows what they want, no one knows how they want the team to play, no one knows what manager would bring that style to the club.
That’s my explanation anyway. No one has a clue and they settled on Frank, because he was universally liked and had the reputation of being “adaptive” - because “adaptive” as the first adjective to describe a manager really means you don’t have a style of play.
