Player Lucas Bergvall

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Lad needs some proper recovery time - this time! - rather than being rushed back......

Gallagher purchase should prove crucial in that.

Real shame about his injury - I thought today was a clear reminder of why he's far better as an 8. Always positive on the ball, looking to drive forward, happy to take it on the half turn. It was the best he's looked in ages.

Luckily we've got Gallagher and Bissouma to come back in against Burnley, but again does make me wonder why we prioritised Gallagher when we've got such a talented player who is perfect for that position. Like, Gallagher's good and no doubt more consistent but Lucas's potential is sky-high in that role. Need to make sure we get him the minutes he needs there.
It's squad game - and with Bentancur out (as well as Kulusevksi & Maddison), Spurs needed reinforcement in CMF; so I fine with getting Gallagher. Bergvall can't play all the games all season.

Yeah if it's mainly those 2 competing for the spot then I think that's alright. The issue is it's also Sarr, Bentancur and probably Gray's best position too.

Need to start moving some players on soon or we're gonna have a bottleneck. That said, if these injuries persist we're gonna need more depth there.

Bergvall, Gray, Gallagher, Sarr would be a good mix of CMs to play this formation, especially as we probably won't have european football next season. I thought Bergvall and Gray looked fantastic today, especially in terms of the physical aspect of their roles. We'll be just fine without Bentancur or Palhinha.

Desperately need a more technical passing CM in there still, though, which immediately takes away a spot.

Personally I think we need to sign 2 mids as none of our mids except Bissouma can reliably receive the ball under pressure with their back to goal, and none at all are above-average passers. All those you listed (except maybe Gray who can cover 6 against weak teams) should be competing for that 8 spot imo, which makes it way too congested.

If you play pretty much any combination of those you listed in a double pivot we're gonna really struggle playing possession football, reliably retaining the ball under pressure, passing between the lines etc - basically all the problems we've been having under Frank.

You think that, but I think they will excel if given a chance to step up to these roles. Today was a good start towards that end.

He's 19 maybe physically he just needs a break, played an awful lot of football (when fit) over the past year. Should be used as sparingly as possible for a while to allow his body to recover properly. Let's face it, if we make the knock off phase of CL we will likely get knocked out so all we have left is 1 game a week so just trying to manage him until then and maybe get him playing every 2nd or 3rd game and let his body catch up and get him in prime position for next season.
