Simple answer which I think many have said on here already is that we only have one true full back in the squad (Ben Davies) who probably won't be here next season. All the rest, including the new kid from Brazil are wing backs or attacking full backs i.e. defensive duties are not their forte... The more I look at our squad, the more I think we would be better of playing 3-4-2-1.
Vic although would prefer a new GK who doesn't shit the bed every 5 minutes
Back three - Romero, VDV, Danso or Dragusin but the young Croat lad would walk straight in next season
Then Porro/Udogie has wing backs with Spence covering Porro and the young lad from Brazil can cover Udogie (unless of course he is better)
Then any two of Palhinha, Sarr, Gray, Gallagher and Bentancur although that group needs a serious upgrade
Then you have any two of Simons, Bergvall, Gallagher, Madders, Kulu, Kudus although we probably need to move on a few in this group (Gallagher is in this group too as I reckon he would be okay anywhere in our midfield).
Then Solanke or Richarlison up top with Tel in there to cover for injuries.

At his core he is a wingback. He can defend but his big strengths are in providing width and helping out in attack.
He obviously can play as a regular rightback which he is asked to do with us. But to get the most out of Pedro you use him in a wingback role I think.

Hm due to our midfield problems this season i was wondering for some time if Kimmich-style position switch could work for this guy.
When we moved him to pivot he was really good on the ball and played couple nice passes. One-off situation, but wouldnt be against trying him more in this position in energency situation
