Management Johan Lange - Technical Director

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

If Lange really did say that;

“If you stick your hand out of the window for long enough, a beautiful butterfly will eventually land on it.”

I didn't watch his whole 'interview' so don't know but if that's his analogy for finding suitable players he needs to be sacked, we don't want the DOF sitting with his hand out the window hoping for a butterfly to land, we want him gayfully searching the meadows skipping from shrub to shrub wielding his butterfly net.

The club have said several times that Paratici was in charge of first team transfers, I'm pretty sure. This is someone else's shit storm Lange is being pegged with tbh

Well that was August, so he didnt stick around to help at all, just went home because it was none of his business?

And Jan? Pretty sure we can agree Paratici had nothing to do with - was certainly more a Lange lead window. Seems very much like he went home again instead :franklol:

The same August where we signed RKM on deadline day and Xavi a few days before. The August thing is a total none-issue.

Vinai outwardly said Paratici was going to finish the January window before leaving. It has been stated quite clearly that Lange wasn't responsible for first team transfers, so it seems more like the club gave the reins to a guy who was already out the door.

Paratici said yesterday:

“In my case Fiorentina have a serious set of owners, a very serious set of owners who are of great value.
“Rocco didn’t have to persuade me. I was the one who had to convince him to take me on.”

So it sounds pretty much like the board is a complete mess post-levy-exit.

My favourite two bits from the interview he gave were the opening section where he said: “This is an interview I always enjoy doing……”

I bet it is, with scripted questions easier to fuckin answer than a celebrity version of a TV quiz show.

The second is where he says: “many clubs have lots of injuries so there are not the players available in the market place in January.” He should bank that excuse, Daniel would have been proud of that one.

I would argue its more likely they DIDNT give the reins to Paratici, precisely because he was already out the door

This is, imo, a Lange window. Hence Lange doing the interview yesterday.

And what a shambles it was, both the window and interview.

Though I agree, whether Im right or you are - the board is clearly a complete mess

It would seem that Paratici came to us second time around just for a pay cheque . When he first came he shipped out all the dead wood and brought in the beginnings of a great squad , Udogie , Romero and good few others that would walk into most PL teams . Second time around I can't say he brought in any players , or got rid of any old players . It's probably for the best that he's gone , Levy brought him in and now his original gaffer (Levy) has departed he seemed to have no loyalty to the club . I think Levy knew he was going a long while back and probably told Paratici not to bother earning his keep .

I knew that some people would regret getting rid of Levy , we've now realised that although he was a tightwad he didn't neglect the squad when we were suffocating under too many injuries . For those who wanted him out - you could say they're reaping what they've sewn . But - change is what was needed , we got to CL final and instead of investing the £178mil we earned in players - Levy went a few windows without buying anyone . We have new people at the helm This time around , so we can see where the CL money goes in the summer . That's if we don't get dragged into a relegation dogfight , other clubs are used to fighting for survival whereas we aren't used to it , so don't know what it takes .

Out of interest, why is it "Levy went a few windows without buying anyone", and not "Pochettino/Hitchen went a few windows without buying anyone", and yet the current rhetoric isn't that "The Lewis Family" here but "Lange/Frank"?

Seems to be a bit 'confirmation bias', no?

Didn't Poch say before/after the CL final that we needed a painful rebuild , that's not the words of someone that doesn't want/need new players . It was that long ago I can't remember exactly

Pochettino was just talking in different scales though. His phrasing, whether we say it's a 3rd or 4th language translation from a guy that, in normal conversation, is far from fluent enough to be taken verbatim, was talking purely about money.
We spend a shit ton on two players he wanted that took us back painfully, so he was probably right in some ways haha.

He did turn down players, that much is true (Tielemens), so it remains why people now don't put any blame on the club for these things.

It's been John Thomas (and probably others) go to phrase of "Well, ultimately it's the person at the top who is responsible" but apparently now Levy has gone that stops at lange

As I said I can't remember exactly , and yes Poch ended up spending lot of money Ndombelled . I agree it's the fault of the custodians who have the purse strings . Our club is like a soap opera , always twists and turns - when something good happens the owners leap into the lime light but they shrink back into the shadows when the shit is being slung . For this last ten years I've been tossing coins as to whether to renew my season ticket - I've wanted to know who we're buying before I renew . But every June I renew without knowing , rather than be called a fair-weather supporter by the rest of lads .

Yup. Paratici handled first team squad construction and Lange individual player scouting/identification. With some focus on the youth. Which on paper played to both men's strengths.

Lange, for all of his flaws, is a very good talent identifier. Just look at Aston Villa. A lot of their players were scouted by Johan Lange. But they only really clicked into gear once Monchi came in who had the squad building part down to an art. He identified what still needed to be fixed and complemented Lange's work. We clearly went for a similar structure in mind with the Lange - Paratici setup and it makes sense that they want to stick to that formula given that we are now looking for a new DOF.

It's Lange that has come out to defend the transfer window, of course he's going to be the first port of call, he's popped his head above the parapet. The anti ENIC sentiment is now the same as when Levy seemingly had the reigns, people wanted to wait for this transfer window before commenting, to see if this cash injection we were informed about would amount to anything.

Correct me if I'm wrong about this but you seem to me to be suggesting that criticising Lange is hypocritical as if people are saying ENIC are now fab?

Saw a little bit, but got irritated quite quickly and stopped.
The interviewer has been fed scripted questions that yield the best responses.
"tell us up about the injury situation"
"going into January we didn't know we'd have 7 new injuries, so you can't prepare for that"

But you did know Deki and Madison are MIA. Probably unlikely to play again this season but won't admit it.
You did know you were selling last seasons top scorer.
You did know Solanke had missed the whole season up until January.
You did know that most of the starting players were being flogged to death because of the aformentioned injuries and sale.

Unless all of Deki, Mads, Bergvall, Richie, Bentancur, Kudus, Porro, Spence and Danso come back ASAP, then this is incompetence.
It’s not as if all of them got injured on feb2nd. Surely if they had made plans for Jan already then they could have gone for someone even on loan. I wonder if Gallagher was on their list for Jan or was it just opportunistic? The Brazilian kid as well and how comes they make a deadline day deal for the lad from hearts. Wdf do we need him when we have Moore, Yang, LWB and prbly a few others.
