Player Archie Gray

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Oh I’m sorry I’m not gassing up a kid who wouldn’t stand out or actually play for any decent team. He’s yet another generational talent, it’s amazing how many of them we are lucky to have. I should act like we’ve found the new Gerrard just to fit in with the other clueless muppets in this fanbase.
You are the only one expecting him to be Gerrard.

Ben Davies was a decent enough squad player compared to what we have nowadays. So maybe I should have taken this as a compliment.

Why are people having a dig at Archie Gray?

He’s the only one showing up every week and just scored a goal covering for our amateur squad building by playing out of position at RB.

If you can’t see a player starting to show technical ability under pressure and passing range, plus a bit of bite and physicality, then that’s up to you, but it’s more likely because you don’t want to see it.

Looked a proper player against Newcastle. He was just about serviceable when he played at full-back last season but the other night he looked genuinely very decent. Felt like we were seeing the man rather than the timid boy for the first time.

Always felt with Archie the talent was there, he just needed to start backing himself and playing with confidence. And that's what he did the other night. Good long passing, taking players on, assured link-up play. And he's clearly one of the more natural footballers in the squad with a good base of technical ability that many others are lacking.

He's still got a long way to go, especially in midfield, but if he keeps playing like that and taking steps forward then it could well be 40m quid well spent after all.

He looked very good against Newcastle ....but at right back.

At Rb he has had a couple of very good performances and at Centre back last season he was ok. My issue, and I've said this many times, is when he plays at centre midfield.

His positional sense when he plays at CM has been atrocious and he's rarely,if ever, trying any sort of progressive pass which is backed up by the stats.

The positive in all this is that he has the passing range in his locker and it could have been manager instructions preventing him from doing it.

Ouch.... Bit snappy!!
Full disclosure, I've got him down as the next Gary Mabbutt!!

Level headed, comes from a footballing family, mature, versatile, reliable, solid, brave and future Captain material!

All he needs now is diabetes and he's a direct comparison with Mabbsey!!

He is terrible as a CB, absolutely terrible.

I really like Archie and I think he'll go on to be a good PL player but (like many in our squad) he is prone to extreme ball-watching when he's defending. The first Newcastle goal is a perfect example. He just wasn't alive to the danger. I don't see that as a long-term position for him.

He ok - but at the moment it’s most likely he will be lower PL/Championship player.

Johnson, Solanke, Richarlison,Gray could have been Gibbs and Frank?
Aim lower- and it’s no surprise you end up there.

Really like Archie. Thought he was one of the few showing the right attitude recently. Not sure he's ready to be first choice in a top half of the premier league team week in and week out though. I also don't think he's really benefiting from being used as a fixall for any gap in the team - but I'd certainly have him as one of the first backups for the midfield places in particular.

Unless we get relegated then he'll probably be one of the few players we manage to keep and probably end up as first name on the team sheet.

18 y/o out of position in his debut EPL season; alongside a random partner most weeks.

If you don't ignore context; he blatantly wasn't "absolutely terrible" and doesn't deserve anything close to such criticism.
