I had the short-lived version in the mid/early 90s that had magnetic bases and a magnetic ball.
It was fundementally flawed because you had to press the top of the players so the base slid over the magnetic to made the player 'pass', so my family basically broke every single player within hours of christmas day by slamming the top of them
