He could pass like Pirlo and he'd still be a liability this season. That's why passing stats aren't the be all and end all for a central defender.
Passing is arguably the key function of a modern day CB, how do you think teams progress the ball and pass it forward? More to the point how do you expect us to get the ball up the pitch without our best passer by a distsnce?

The geniuses on here are celebrating losing our only player with anything remotely resembling the ability to pass the ball effectively.
These people deserve relegation and, hopefully, should the worse happen, they will all fuck off.

Best passing stats are nearly all central midfielders.
Says a lot our best is a CB.
And that none of our top 5 passers are CMs.
There is definitely a link between people who do not want Romero in the team and happy that Danso is playing instead and the very same people thinking that we needed Gallagher for his passion and work rate, classic passion merchants who rate blood and guts over technique.
As much as Romero can be an liability and not a great captain, his core skill of passing the actual football for a team who is allergic to passing the football is very much needed in this team but don't worry people were celebrating his injury as if we are much better off without him okay cool then

Now show number of games suspended and number of fouls committed, both of which he leads for us. All well and good having good passing but when you’re hacking people down (usually for no good reason, he doesn’t do clever fouls) and getting yourself sent off, you’re about as much use as a chocolate teapot.
There seems to be a misconception at this club that you can have one or the other, we are seemingly blind to the masses and masses of middle ground of players that can put themselves about a bit and still actually play football...There is definitely a link between people who do not want Romero in the team and happy that Danso is playing instead and the very same people thinking that we needed Gallagher for his passion and work rate, classic passion who rate blood and guts passion over technique.

Similar story with athleticism. I'm pretty sure Lange just assumes that anyone with decent technique must be 3 stone overweight and pissed up half the time.
As I said he is flawed but his core skill is absolutely needed in this team.

Romero seemingly started to think he could dominate any manager coming in and basically do what he wanted. This filtered through to rest of changing room including his partner Mickey and here is the result - a rabble of unprofessional louts who thought their shit didn’t stink.
Well it’s fucking stinking now isn’t it!

Have you ever managed a team of staff or any group of individuals? If so you would understand that an effective and cohesive TEAM is worth far more than a highly skilled individual.
It starts from the top - put that shit on the club, he's been fully indulged since he's here, he's acted like an arse but the club have been so fucking soft, even giving him a pay rise, new deal and captaincy even though he spoke out against the board numerous times - he was made captain before Frank got to the club for example.
I don't and judging by your username you may or may not be familiar with the British idiom "He's pissed on his chips/cornflakes"...hence my propensity to decline.
Fine...so how does our collective replace his core skill we are missing from the team which is passing the football?

Over on the De Zerbi thread the same data is being used to acknowledge just how shit we are as a team. Something me and
bus-conductor
have been pointing out for fucking years. But the galaxy brains on this thread think the answer is hounding out the only player we have in the Top 1000 fucking passers in the league and not, you know, actually surrounding him with similarly talented passers.
Like I said - they deserve to be relegated and hopefully if that happens they fuck off forever.
He's our best passer so we can't possibly get rid of him or replace him no matter how poor the rest of his defending is.
Presumably you apply the same logic to Richarlison, he's our best goalscorer so we better not ever get rid of him no matter how limited the rest of his game is because we'll never score again.
It's just stupid to suggest that because he's our best passer we should keep him despite the fact he's been a demonstrably bad center back all season and a fucking appalling captain.
Well you're going to have to pass the ball up the pitch and get the ball into the box to actually allow 'our best goalscorer' to score goals, one thing can't happen without the other so it's not really quite the same thing is it?
I'd actually suggest something that would make sense for all parties if we had an adequate plan to replace the core skill we are fundamentally missing by a distance but currently we don't have anyone close to his ability on the ball, the facts and the eye test back that up.
All moot anyway he's played his last game for us so...
