Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Think if will come down to who is interested. If it's Liverpool and/or United we could potentially get 60m-70m, especially if there's a bidding war. Liverpool just spent 60m on the kid from Rennes, and United spent 52m on Yoro - two hyped but raw unproven kids. Van de Ven, while has has some weaknesses, is in his prime, an international, has some very unique strengths, etc.

If no PL clubs are in for him we're gonna be looking at closer to 50m from someone like Barca I reckon.

Will also come down to our negotiating team. Levy would drag the deal out until the end of the window to eke out every last penny. Who knows how these clowns will operate? The Johnson sale was v.quick so maybe they'll do things differently?

We'll easily get our money back, though. Would be stunned if we sell for less than 50m and even that's almost a 10m profit.

Not so simple.....some egos can't handle shit like that. I bet VdV can't stand being at the same club as Kudus let alone being payed far less

If he can't handle that someone is being paid more than him then all he has to do is sign a new deal which will jack his salary up, it's actually very simple.

Such a huge risk selling both your starting CBs though.

Completely agree.

Assuming we stay in the Premier League (lol) and Di Zerbi can assure them that they will be playing to their preferred style - the club would need to do a lot to convince them to stay. Romero has already talked about broken promises and lack of ambition at the club.

The club needs to decide - Do we want to WIN the Premier League and domestic cups, or are we happy with just qualifying for Europe. If the latter, then that should align with the player's ambition. If players expect/want to win trophies it is detrimental to have them play for Spurs. Their heads will drop and they lose motivation. Instead, sign players whose dream is to finish top 4 and on day play in Europe - they will fight for it; and not view it as a 'booby' prize.

Haha talks of Van De Ven wanting to stay at the club now, I mean It's almost as if football players buy into managers they like or something

I really don’t think there’s much risk involved in selling the starting centre back pairing that have been in a team finishing so poorly in two consecutive seasons!

It’s hardly prime Jan & Toby!

I’d like to see a hard reset and any dubious personalities moved on.

keeping the defence from our two worse premier league seasons (and among our worst football league season) does seem a bit counter-intuitive

VdV has a long ways back into everyone's good graces, but good gosh our right side has leaked SOO many more goals in the past two seasons. I'd love a statistical breakdown.

Not any rocket science - Porro is not a great defender as he is much more forward-minded and Romero wanders off and switches off. Also, since Ange, our right side has been targeted because of the gaps Porro leaves. On the left we have Spence who is faster at recovery (and stronger and better at defending) or Udogie who is a better defender and if they’re injured we had Davies who was probably the most positionally aware of the lot of them. As an attacking team, why head into traffic when you could just pump it into the huge gap on our RW? (You also had Johnson not tracking back etc.)

It does. If however they can stay fit, be more consistent and the new manager, I think they're talented enough to be a very good back four.

They've mostly been fully fit this season.

That back 4 was made for Angeball, but no defence can tolerate the intensity of that (huge issue with the "I've got a genius plan - all out attack. Why has no one thought of this before" style).

They are shocking behind the ball, playing like a normal team.

Frank was the worst manager I've seen. VdV hated playing for him. I wouldn't be judging the back four on that basis even if they were all fit.

De Zerbi and importantly the assistants will know how to set them defensively- they're Italians, after all.

Its tempting to throw everything out but there's no guarantee those who come in will be any better. I still think there's something to work with here.
