Player Dominic Solanke

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

What is this lol

Some of these players aren't even strikers, some of them weren't even available and some weren't even as good as they are now, as if you would have taken Beto and Beto is still crap. Good Lord ! You didn't even know who he or Ivan Thiago was back in 2024 😂

Evanilson hasn't even bettered Solanke's goal tally for Bournemouth in a better team than Solanke had, laughable to suggest he'd even get anywhere near enough goals, he's a categorically worse finisher than Solanke, even Bournemouth fans will tell you that.

I would have loved to see any of these players play in our team where we have been an inconsistent mess over the past 2 years, Christ imagine the deadly trio of Calvert Lewin and Brennan Johnson with Werner on the the other side, pretty sure they'd be riots if we ended up with those 3.

Pure and utter hindsight talk lmao

Solanke was not officially available - we paid £65m. All these players were gettable at £65m. I did not put Haaland or Isaak in.
As for hindsight - of course it is hindsight that is the point.

Solanke is no better than Calvert Lewin - no better than Beto .
CL was a free , Wellbeck was a free
Solanke was our record buy - if we hadn't spent £65m on him - we could have bid more for Eze or any other player.

Yes if Solanke was £10m and a squad player/reserve player - then not so bad. Not my choice - but not so damaging .

People groaned when we were first linked
then when we bought him - understandably there was goodwill .
It turns out the initial groans - were correct ,

You have to remember we finished 5th - and were supposed to kick on - under those circumstances he was a very underwhelming signing .

I fully accept - transfers are not easy . Sometimes the ones that should don't work out and vice verse.
With Solanke we got what was on the tin . And that is what makes it annoying.

We paid £65m due to his release clause, that means he was available to anyone as long as they matched it, we did.

Arguing in hindsight doesn't mean you are right, it just means you're judging or criticising a decision after you already know the outcome, instead of considering what was known at the time the decision was made, pointless.

He was at the time so have a look what's happened since.

Welbeck's purple patch has happened over the past 2 years, look how Brighton have performed in the same time we have underperformed, do you really think that he'd be the player he is now if he played for us?

If DCL played for us for the last two seasons considering the circumstances that the team has been in then how do think these players would have turned out?

Anyone we could have got would have been an underwhelming signing, even the strikers you mentioned, this is my point - there aint a lot of difference between them.

More to the point, instead of pinning this on one player have a look at the vast majority of our transfer over the past few years, barely any work out, that says more about the club as opposed to the players, maybe you should be looking more at how this club operates as opposed to the actual players, hence why I'm convinced that all of these players you've mentioned wouldn't make much of a difference if they played for us.

If there isn't a lot of difference between the strikers. Why pay £65m for Dom?
It's not like - that wasn't said at the time.
Spurs and non Spurs fans raised eyebrows.
That's not hindsight.

Was there a sure thing striker available?
Probably not.
Was there a different type of less limited player available? Yes.
Would he have worked out? No idea

Because £65m was his release clause (was actually £55m with £10m add ons)

Some fans raised eyebrows, some didn't...some people would have raised eyebrows if we went for DCL and Welbeck, people would have moaned regardless.

Yeah so basically we don't know how any of these players would have worked out, going by our transfer activity and how our players have fared over the past few years then the logical conclusion is that they would have probably gone the same way or similar to Solanke.

There wasn't a better striker available in the (our) market in 2024 and he seemed a perfect fit for a high press, high possession side. and he probably would have been - if he hadn't been playing for a Club cursed by injury.

Where we went wrong was not buying (or even moving for) the like of Etikite last summer.

So we went for the worst possible option. Classic Spurs.

I'm hearing names like Alvarez ffs

Because it absolutely could've been done, just your Daniel would rather buy 20% of the player, for 80% of the price that we should get, a tale as old as time.

You ignored all the other viable options because that doesn't suit your agenda. Dom was a God awful signing at the time, and it's aged worse. If he was the best available, for that money, loan someone and wait a year. Just added to the bonfire of absolute shite that we have.

I agree with your Osimhen take, that wasn't viable, at all. But others mentioned absolutely were.

Oh Ange said they had monitored him all summer 24 when he was not at euros. Yet make him almost a last min signing. Someone is telling Lorrie’s. I never wanted him esp at 65M.
