Maybe I have this wrong but it seemed to me Kane, and then Maddison were both good at getting the team free kicks in potential goal scoring areas.

Seemed to me like in Pochettino's tenure I can remember Eriksen stepping up to take a free kick in a dangerous area often, and the same with Maddison the past two seasons, perhaps not quite so often.

When was the last time we scored from a free kick? I suspect there must have been at least one this season but I can't remember any.

Draws at Villa and Chelsea would do nicely. Can Maddison play some of the Everton game, can we nick a set piece goal at home to Leeds

I genuinely think Saturday's game between Brentford and West Ham is the defining game.

The run West Ham have been on and their ability in the last 3 months to get results will undoubtedly give them a lot of confidence, but I think Santo will believe they need to win.

Maddison against Villa last season

If they win that and we don’t beat Villa then we’re down as it means zero consequences for them losing to Woolwich and we won’t make up any slip ups in the Chelsea game.

Vital were no more than 3 points behind going into the Leeds game - that for me will be our very last chance to get out of this

You are forgetting that pesky “normalizing losing” thing that only happens to us. Doesn’t happen to West Ham, Forest or Leeds. Or any other football club ever. Just us. We’re never winning another match.
It happened to them years ago as they're usually down there. Leeds went down and came back up this season.
It only happened to us last season. Before that we averaged a top 5 finish in the league for about 20 straight years.

IMHO to avoid relegation we need to place a lot on the shoulders of Palhinha and Bentancur as our double pivots in defensive midfield. These 2 are vital for us in the next few games .
Problem is, every time those two started together under Frank, the performances of the team were horrible.
Whether or not that was a lack of plan and coaching I can't say. But they felt like a very poor combo to me. Each on their own are fine. But as a paring it seemed to hurt us.

Our results with those two starting are significantly better than any other midfield combo we have put out this year. They are stodgy and uninspiring together, but we tend not to lose games as readily.

We need to set up to nick games now, not to dominate and create. We don't have any creators left so we may as well buy in to the fact that we need to play for set pieces and second balls. Those two will give us that platform.

With the EFL season ending shortly, are we able to take back any of the loan players and have them in the squad for the final 3 games? Devine / Lankshire etc ?

Who else was playing ahead of them when we picked up those results though?
Xavi, Kudus, Odobert, Johson

Guessing as they're not listed in our PL squad for the 2nd half of the season, even if we could bring them back, they wouldn't be registered to play anyway.
