Player Cristian Romero

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Why are people so keen to sell Romero?

Look at the top teams in the league, they have 3-4 good choices at CB.

If we keep Vusokovic out on loan again (which I think we should, ideally to a prem team), then Romero, Van De Ven, Senesi and Danso would be good.

Because he'd demand to be 1st choice and I don't think he's good enough at the higher end of the PL to be that.
He's too much of a head case and injury liability.
We need a CB who is there for most games, does nothing stupid, is good at all the basics of football and doesn't piss off abroad at the hint of an international match.

I was as good as done with him in the home match Vs Forest.
We needed to win that game, and there he was, in their penalty box walking back.
Again.

There's also a lot of money on the table to make him someone else's problem IMO.

I wonder if the reason we signed Gallagher in January was a precursor to Romero going the other way in the summer.

It was worse last season. One of the reasons it was wasted was Ange. His insistence on playing attacking football in the league, when our defence was basically made up of reserves and competition winners was his undoing.

Frank had it less bad, as his attackers were out, but he didn’t attack anyway. So, less of an issue.

And I would say Romero played well, when he played, last season. Yes, his availability is an issue and that would be a reason I’d sell him. But the talent is there.

And Ange not being here is the main reason we have been crap this season. If he’d still been here, we’d never have had to suffer Frank.
Ange was/is shit.

First 10 matches were great.

Last match was bliss on tap - finally, a trophy.

In between he was complete shit. 5th place in the first season is a misnomer, because we were so far ahead of the pace after 10 matches we were able to capitulate and still cling on to 5th.

If we'd merely had a "good" start to the season in 2023-24, 6-2-2 (2 ppm still CL form), then we'd have finished 7th. If we'd had standard Spurs form, say 5-3-2 (1.8 ppm), then we'd have finished 8th and been within shouting distance to 9th.

If his first 10 matches had been the same as the last 28 matches, then we'd have finished no better than 9th and likely worse due to the increase in points other clubs would have seen.

Ange caught the league off guard - people couldn't fathom a team playing with wanton disregard to defending. But he was quickly found out, and teams just sat back, soaked up pressure, and pinged balls into the massive gaps we left at the back through blatant dereliction of duty.

If it is a choice between letting him or Micky go in the summer then Romero is out the door.

Although I wouldnt be surprised if we saw a Keane/Berbatov situation with our centre backs this summer and they both push for moves. The Sensini move seems to suggest that Romero is the one out the door I think.

Stumbled into the Postecoglou thread have we? :ange-bored:

Unfortunately (or not depending on where you stand) one of those has signed a contract extension and the other hasn't. So while we have a measure of choice in regards to Romero, we have little of no leverage over Mickey until either he signs or he's sold.

Literally both of their contracts expire in the same month and year.

I'm running out of patience with some of you muppets.

If my Auntie had wheels, she’d be a bike.

If, if, If, if.

Just spouting for spouting’s sake here bud.

Theres a line between aggression and reckless and romero just crosses it far too often.

To me, an aggressive tackle is a 50/50 and you go in strong and maybe leave a little bit on the opponent - 'letting them know you're there'. Reckless is chasing someone for 20 yards and clattering them from behind and picking up a pointless yellow on the half way line. Something romero does way too often. So many of his yellows and reds have been stupid tackles in non dangerous areas.

No really. I've pointed out that outside of his first 10 matches where he caught everyone off guard, Ange's first season isn't really any different than his 2nd season. Once he was sussed after 10 matches, we were one of the poorer teams in the league.

He was lucky he got off to a fortunate flying start. It was a fluke, that's it.
