I'm saying that momentum isn't the marker - in an array of season, we've shown that it's hard to undo momentum in one. It's not like we've had exclusively excellent managers from Santini onwards - we had progression and momentum. Even with your Ramos types (note: also "cup winner" but shit manager in the league) we've never plummeted down the table.
Same is seen, to a lesser extent, with Slot. Picks up Klopps serial winning team, gets a title, season 2 he does his own tweaks and deconstructs the momentum.
The fact of the matter is that no manager in the PL era has ever really taken the Europa League seriously - you have to duck out of the CL at an early stage to qualify, or finish outside of the CL seasons. There's a small amount of our seasos that applies to. Then, the motivation of winning it - which, to all the clubs, is about CL qualification, which is only a recent addition.
I don't buy that Redknapp or Poch would have struggled to win it, should they have been motivated to, but it would have been a lot easier for them to have done so with only 2nd tier entrants to it in the last couple of seasons, and the motivation of CL qualy. It would have actually have been a brilliant focus on Poch's part to win a trophy and be able to get CL - because he knew the club needed that funding to push forwards - instead of having to finish in the top 4, which is much much harder.
Here's the big issue that I'm sure none of you cheerleading it will want to address - if he lost the EL final, would you still be saying he is some mega manager? Do you really think the 24/25 season was acceptable for league performances?
