Also good for valuation to say "he's our first choice keeper" than to say "we're glad he got injured because he's been a liability. Oh, can we have £20m for him please?"
Yeah, I sincerely hope the "he's our number 1" stuff is just lip service from De Zerbi.

One thing that's surprised me about him, but makes sense given how good a man-manager he seems to be, is how clever and calculated his messaging in the press has been.

Ange talked a good game and was great for a soundbite of an anecdote but sometimes it felt like self-mythologising and didn't always help us on the pitch. I like how he stood up for the club, but he was sometimes too honest and didn't challenge refs enough. Frank meanwhile didn't know how to play the game at all and kept putting his foot in his mouth - absolutely awful at messaging and dealing with the media.

De Zerbi reminds me a little of Mourinho in that everything he says to the media seems to be quite thought out - he's considering how the players will perceive his words, how other clubs and refs will perceive them, how he needs to reframe the debate and focus on positives, etc. Much better than I was expecting.

I doubt Kinsky is our long term solution, but he's proven me wrong about being the short term one.

If he plays like he has the last few games consistently he is one of the best keepers in the league. IF being the word.

We at least know his ceiling is top level, his floor is the question and I don’t mean AM with their dodgy wet slippy pitch

I think the club will go out and get a new keeper in the Summer regardless of Kinsky's form, we need to replace Vic anyway.

He's made some decent stops in these games. Stops I didn't ever see him make when he had a run last season.
What's been interesting me is his willingness to to play De Zerbi ball. Foot on it and wait for a defender to come towards him.
As yet though, I haven't seen a single opponent actually try to take the ball off him. I've seen Gallagher do it to our oppo's keeper 2 or 3 times so far.
What will happen when he is actually challenged?

Yes but getting someone better than Kinsky will become a challenge if his level remains like these last few games and that is obviously good. He was a very highly rated but young keeper when we got him. At least it means we don’t have to shit ourselves when Vic leaves knowing how bad the club normally are at scouting.

2nd one is more ball to hand.
Commentator didn't even know if he touched at the time.

I actually think he's matured a bit since then. He played well on his debut but his style on the ball felt quite cocky - making quite a lot of flashy, risky passes and tempting fate a little too much. Then he had a couple dodgy performances and got brought back down to earth before Vic came back in.

Under De Zerbi his passing's actually been a lot less risky - he's much more willing to keep it simple or punt it long. I also remember hearing some rumours that behind the scenes he was a bit of a cocky bellend when he arrived (although that might be bollocks) but he's come across well in the media stuff recently and seems a lot more humble.

Early days but hopefully he can keep this up as we might have a gem on our hands.

The way things are going I'd get a cheap but reliable number 2 we can fall back on and give Kinsky a run as our number 1. If it doesn't work out we spend big on a new first team keeper in Jan/next summer.

Not really anything keeper related - that was the dumb way of playing we had that led to gifting Liverpool loads of one-vs-one and unmarked chances. He made quite a few critical saves in that game.

Wasn't the only player we saw regress under that coaching team though
He could have done better with one or two of those and that was a theme.
He's come back stronger, so fair play.
It'll take a lot longer for me to believe this is the new norm though.

You really are off your tits! Ball to hand?

Kinsky reacts to the shot by raising his hand reflexively, leading to the save. If his hand remains in the same position then the ball flies over it into the net.

I'm trying to decide if your trolling or just a lunatic.

That's one of the things - I used to play in goal and you get a weird unconscious ability to move your hand to where it needs to be; it isn't like a "oh the ball is going there, I need to reach for it". It was a skill that transferred across to table tennis. Quite fascinating from a physiological/psychological point of view.

In that sense, it's always "ball to hand". It's like when you see some keepers do the Schmeichel 'spread' - it's always going to be "ball to hand/foot/leg" because the technique is having the limb there to block it, not actively moving it towards the shot

The save is overhyped. Like most things with Kinsky at the moment.
Someone else said his performances over the last two games could make him the best keeper in the world.
Fuck - against Villa he only had one shot to face and it went in.

What is it with this guy? The blonde hair.
If he is a solid number 2 - that will be great.
No need to get carried a away - and hype up.
