Are Referee's Reffing Us Out of The Premier League?

I do not think there is any sinister match fixing - every team claims it is against them. It is just refs and VAR being shit. Before VAR there were more bad decisions, just fans accepted human error more. VAR should only be used for the clear and obvious errors instead of checking for any reason to disallow a goal, or replaying tackles in slow motion.

I think it can go one of three ways:

1. Get rid of VAR altogether.

2. Only use it for obvious cheating / mistakes (Maradonna's hand of god, Thierry Henry's handball against Ireland in the WC play off game, Mendes goal at Old Trafford etc). In this event, replays do not need to be watched in slow motion. Restrict VAR replays to no more than 3 at normal speed.

3. Restrict VAR usage to when manager's challenge the ref's decision, with only 3 challenges per game. Challenges need to be made to the 4th official within 20 secs of the event that is being challenged (to prevent coaching teams watching replays first and then challenging).

I would keep goal line technology whatever happens to VAR.

Don't blame the ref , he could have unsighted but VAR is there for exactly that reason .
While I don't believe in the corruption angle , you have to think there may have been some inherent bias involved .
If no bias then clearly should never be in the VAR seat again , there has to be consequences .

Ref went to the screen, saw it, and still didn't give the handball.
That was his choice, even with multiple angles showing it was handball and the VAR team telling him he's missed it and should look again.
Ref here 100% in the wrong.
I don't go in for the whole corruption narrative

But that decision was farcical

Stone wall penalty

How many wrong decisions need to go against us for you to agree it is a thing.
Whether it's a directive by a body of people, or just a collection of refs who coincidentally all dislike us enough to make wrong decisions, you can't keep denying it.
Something is off.

And yet more and more stats are emerging showing it's not even close as to how "differently" we're being reffed.
Nobody has suggested that it only affects us. But it's clearly affecting us way more than others.
And teams like Everton and Newcastle recently have had decisions go against them because those decisions hurt us.
Whilst some fans only observe the direct ones in our matches, some of us have seen how far reaching this bias now goes.
There's no way on earth would Newcastle not have got that penalty, nor have Soucek sent off if those decisions didn't help send us down.

I want a theme from us from now on, of calling out poor ref decisions that have hurt us in the week before the current game.
WH have no successfully defend oppo attacks 3 times with their hands.
Once is an annomoly.
3 times establishes this as a new rule in football. So surely we can handball it in the box too?

Just remember. This wasn't handball even though the ball was pushed away from Gallagher. Arguably a season defining moment.

This wasn't handball. The score was 1-0 WH and could well have made it 1-1 and changed the ultimate outcome. We would have got out of the relegation zone a week earlier and been safe now. This wasn't given, let's not forget, because it was deemed as "grappling"
Which is ALSO A PENALTY.

And then yesterday, with the score a 0-0

Tell me why WHU have been getting away with these since our game?
Had we got that penalty in January, we would have likely moved so far clear of them and taken their hope away it would have been over there and then.
Instead it started one of the most almighty swings in PL relegation battle history. And it's been pushed every week since.

There is something not right. Just shows an incredible lack of consistency throughout the season predominantly to our detriment.

The amount of cards we seem to get is a fucking outrage.

RE Cards - it's not - nothing in our cards per foul or card per attempted tackle ratio suggests it is anything other than slightly above the mean, but well within a reasonable spread.

Being less shit, would result in us attempting less tackles, and making less fouls and getting less cards,

Oh interesting. Maybe having watched that video with the bias has influenced my thoughts. Do you have links to the information?

There has been a lot of discussions in the minibus on the way home from games regarding VAR and the decisions going the wrong way . It's caused such a stir since it's been brought in . The biggest gripe is that even with VAR the referees still can't get the right decisions . The latest argument was about the Maddison penalty decision . The player didn't touch the ball and didn't change the momentum on the ball and took away Maddison's legs . There is one pro VAR voice in the minibus - that belonging to my brother , and he says there's nothing wrong with VAR it's the referees that are controlling it that are at fault . Therefore it's still open to interpretation , which makes it unfit for purpose . The Maddison decision was being scrutinised by Jarred Gillet and Craig Pawson - two known referees that have been making vital decisions against Tottenham in the past . The two referees shouldn't be refereeing our games because they're biased against us . Why doesn't our club approach PGMOL and ask for an explanation , as this seasons decisions could be instrumental in sending us down . I must say I'm not convinced that VAR can work , when the red tops are getting decisions found in their favour in a lot of games then it it's not fit for purpose . Either bring in foreign referees who have no skin in the game or have referees that aren't making controversial decisions in control of our games .

The issue with VAR is the fact it was introduced to overturn clear and obvious errors not to scrutinise every goal in the hope they find a reason to disallow it . The fact they get involved with everything has led to massive inconsistencies, goal line technology is precise but VAR are trying to justify their existence, nobody wants goals disallowed for toe nails offside and sending offs for hair pulls , something needs to be done because it’s totally ruined the enjoyment of the match day experience .
If you need to draw a line for an offside then it should be a goal .

I keep seeing long winded posts about calls that other clubs get and calls that do not go in our favor. I’m curious about calls that go in our favor.

Does anyone have a list?

The problem with the state of refs in England has been the refs, for decades.
Putting refs on VAR doesn't fix the problem. It should never have been them in the VAR room. It should always have been an unaffiliated body who had no link to them.
What I will say though, under no circumstances should any ex-players be anywhere near it, either.

A list?
What, you think there's that many?
At best, a few close calls that could go either way.
Nothing concrete that we really got away with.

Romero last man foul vs Brentford on NYD and Bentancurs dangerous tackle vs Chelsea are two the spring to mind straight away.

Romero one is pretty concrete for me..... and had that been on one of our players and their last man not sent off it would in your list 100%

Simple facts.
Number of touches in the opponents box. Penalties awarded.
There are 6 teams with less touches than us. Burnely have had 260 less touches in opponents boxes and had 2 penalties.
It also shows we're 17th for Xg, which is shit, but it also shows the 3 below us have 8 penalties between them.

There's at least 3 we should have had. Barely even a debate.

How have Villa managed to finish so high?

So how the hell was that not a red on Troussard a bit ago? Compare it to the Xavi red earlier this year.

Zero consistency.

Not a conspiracy theorist, but good lord the calls certainly seem to favor some teams.
