What's also disappointing, but as predictable as the sun rising, is that, just like all his predecessors, RDZ will become the focus of the fans anger rather than those who are ultimately responsible.

And the cycle starts again
I'm not actually sure that will be the case.

This season really does feel different. RDZ, if he keeps us up, will be loved and supported by the fans. Not least as he really has demonstrated an uptick in performance.

The fans know what's up. And the press do too.

He doesn't have a high bar to get to, just play on the front foot and don't gaslight the fans, our fans are very easy to win over.

This is probably me winning the "fell for it again award," but I don't think it'll be business as usual this summer if we stay up. We've already seen some hints of it by breaking the wage structure to sign Xavi and Gallagher and paying whatever RDZ wanted on a very long term deal.

That Lewis son in law from Florida doesn't seem like he's going to put up with another season of Vinai and Lange's shit. I think he fires them as soon as the season ends and gives RDZ and his people a lot of freedom with transfers.
Even if they fire Lange and Vinai they will replace them with similar incompetence. The overall vetting and hiring process at the club is an absolute joke.

If we stay up then I suspect it is more likely than not we will be down here again next season. The squad is just too poor. DZ will probably be pissed off that we don't do enough in the summer (just like every other manager under ENIC) and will start to agitate and it will be the owners' fault.

If De Zerbi stays we won’t be in a relegation fight. I suspect 6-12th would be the outcome. A lot also depends on Kudus, Kulusevski, Maddison, Xavi coming back plus Vuskovic coming in.

A fully fit squad has some quality but we badly lack a wing goalscorer and deep lying playmaker. Fix our holes and it’s a different situation. That doesn’t need 10 players, 3-4 good ones is the key. Obviously depending if we don’t get relegated.

If RDZ had been here all season we wouldn't be in a scrap. We wouldn't have been 17th last year either.

Even if they don't change the players or just replace them with similar average ones, I expect we'd just be a 10-15th finisher. The manager is the highest leverage change a club can make, other than something like adding a true global elite type player. No greater upgrade could be available from Frank or Ange to an average to above average PL manager.

I hope you are right. He's just another bloke not knowing what he's doing I think and unfortunately will just lead to the two wallies, if still in charge, pissing any money we have up the wall.

You’re conflating pay off with difficulty/simplicity. If he wants to go, he will go. When have we, or any other club for that matter, held on to a manager when he doesn’t want to go?

Pay off/no pay off. Mark my words, if he decides the board are not moving in the direction he wanted (or believes he was told) he will leave.
