We were linked to Kvart whatever a few years back and a guy joined SC excited about it in a transfer thread and IIRC most of the people on there were in stitches about us signing some random Georgian farmer.
By the time he'd got to Napoli it was too late.

I think moral of the story is that wages and fees are redundant in the argument when compared to a scouting department who can sign a Kante or Mahrez for 50p when they are more than good enough in ability, instead of FIFA points
Our scouting department I assume have landed players like Bergvall, Tel, etc.... they may turn out to be great players, the problem is our here and now players are meh, the only way we're going to get players like Kvart without such a gamble is to compete with the salaries of other teams that seem to get the best players.

Ok maybe we could and should have signed Wharton before Crystal Palace did, but as we've got the 5th highest transfer spend in Europe, and we're the 9th richest club, and we're shit, we need to stop all this looking for cheap punts, that might be ok for getting young players in for the future, and maybe the occasional top player who blooms early in his career, but if we are a club that won't spend on someone like Wharton, because we only get players when they're relatively unknown and cheap, then we're just going to be the same old Spurs.

Seems like we were linked to Wharton, Scott, Olise etc all when they were Champo players, but the managers didn't want them

people always say we should "back the manager" and not "sign kids", but managers don't expect to be here to benefit from signing them and have no patience with it. Redknapp said similar recently - they don't give a fuck.
So really, we need to be moving towards a point where we have a Sherwood style person in on the academy side who brings in young products and pushes for a path into the first team.
That would mean we could spread the budget around less and focus on 1 or 2 players in our £150m budget, instead of 6 shit ones

Even today you're still apologising for the wankers and Levy's undeniable role in leading this club to the brink of the abyss.

You should be ashamed of yourself.

You should be posting on Arse mania or The Shed end.

You certainly shouldn't be anywhere near a Tottenham Hotspur forum
Nearly relegated & people still go out their way to support ENIC, levy & Lewis.

If we pay £60 mil for a player it'll be someone with a much lower wage demand than a player that signs for one of our peers for a similar fee.

But there's usually a very good reason they command a much lower wage......They're pretty shit 😆

Hence we finish up with a load of overpriced junk who we won't sell because nobody will pay the fee we're demanding.
Transfer fee is misleading because it be for solanke from Bournemouth or Johnson from forest. Average players that good clubs wouldn’t want. & it will be on much lower wages than psg type signings.

Right so you wouldn't swap our best forwards for Dembele and the Kvart bloke that I can't pronounce or spell his name?

They've done that with a lesser transfer spend than we have since 2020, It just means we ought not have signed Bryan Gil and put his would be transfer fee, towards the wage increase.

Of course I would, anyone would?

My point is wages isn't the reason why we are behind, it's generally poor profiling and a shit culture, we haven't signed bad players so to speak but our culture and lack of care has ensured that our players don't improve.

We signed Gallagher and Xavi on near £200k a week and Romero is near that as well, we're going to finish 17th at best this season.

The wages point never comes up for teams who are overachieving.

Spend smart, not spend big.

The next Eriksen and Dele's are out there. When they are signed they will be mocked by the usual suspects.

Then when we sign the next Tanguy N'Dombele, those suspects will be lauding the 70m spend.
We don't spend smart. We buy lots of dross, that we make losses on, after years of them stinking the place out. Same as our big purchases. £65m on Dominic Solanke is not spending smart.

Nothing they've done of late is smart.

Its why the club is on the brink of relegation.
Club spent £125 M on 2 strikers who can barely hit the target.
Lange and Vinai wankers who need to fuck off with most of the first team.

Yep, ridiculous to mention the word "smart" on anything they've done. Spent hundreds of millions to find the next Eriksen, when we could go out and buy a ready made Eriksen replacement, and potentially get relegated in the process.

You buy the young punts when you have a first team that is settled and bed them in. We don't do that. Those two should be tried at the Hague.

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣. You’re sprinting from intelligence

There's nothing wrong with bringing youths in like when Wharton was a Championship player, but now that he's more established and if De Zerbi says he wants him, we need to pay a competitive salary, if we carry on with this 'oh we didn't get him when he was cheap in the Championship so let's draw a line through his name and find another kid instead' then it's just going to be more of the same, and the gamble that they might turn out to be a Bale or another great player.

He'll probably go to Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester United etc.... when he leaves Palace.

The point I'm making and maybe not well is PSG have spent a lot less on player transfers than our club since 2020 but they have better players. So I'd rather do what they do than what we do. They spunk more of their revenue on salaries.

But with PSG the main issue is they are guaranteed trophies and have a country funding them. Easier draw

PSG are spending about double that on some of their players, and they're making a saving on transfers because they have spent €134m less on player accusitions than we have since 2020.

I'd rather we did our business their way.

I seem to be just repeating my first post on the topic, I have the feeling it's not getting through.

Yeah you're right we should be signing players like Krava, Doue, Vitinha, Menses etc...

Fucking hell 😂

Sure it's a different scenario, but we either pay up, or try and find kids cheap on the market and remain the club that Conte ranted about.

Why can't we use the €134m more on transfer fees that we have over PSG since 2020, on players like Doherty, Bergwijn , Gil et al, and use it to increase the salaries that we can pay, because we've ended up since 2020 paying more on transfers than PSG.

Because it's a filter, really. PSG can't really "lose" domestically, so measuring successes and failures is harder than it is for a PL club.

They spend near a billion on Neymar and Mbappe, but neither of them moved the needle in terms of what you'd expect from them (and arguably a bit worse because they didn't win the league every season). If spurs played in Ligue 1, we'd have either won it or finished 2nd regularly with the players we did sign, and they'd look more successful that way.
