Ex-Spurs Player Harry Kane

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

I was talking internationals - the whole discussion is about Kane for England.

He's obviously got a ton of iconic club goals and performances, but I can't think of a single one in a tournament - like the Gazza goal vs Scotland, Owen vs Argentina etc. Or a game he truly bossed

Closest would be the goal vs Germany I guess but even that was more due to the moment itself rather than the quality of the goal or performance.

I bolded specifically what you said. I'll never forget this as long as I live. Fuck England Spurs is my 'our'

Kane is the best player in the world but since he’s English, it will never be recognized. For some reason you fans and media hate your national team. It’s crazy how negative you all become for every tournament.

Comparing Kane to Rooney lol. If Rooney was so great, those England teams would have performed much better than what Kanes been carrying.

Rooney's England team were up against France's best ever side, Spain's best ever side and one of Brazil's greatest ever side!

This England team have it easy in comparison! where's the Zidane's the Iniesta and Xavi's? the three R's?? nowhere!

it's not an englishness - it's the tribalism in the PL.

I don't think you'd ever see any PL team fan even begrudgingly admit another PL team's player is the best in the world. Kane is evidence of that, and people changed their tune as soon as he left because the act of leaving supported their dislike of him due to the club.

Defo some truth in that. Woolwich and Chelsea fans almost enjoyed Kane not replicating his Spurs form in tournaments and loved using him as a scapegoat. And I'm sure plenty of Spurs fans did the same thing when Lank Frampard played like a competition winner for England in tournaments of old.

Rooney was brilliant but unfortunate to share one era where competition was insane and another where the England team was at a desperately low talent point. Kane also played one tournament of that era - the Euros Iceland knocked us out in.

Kane hasn’t carried England. He’s been a component of an England team which has been good. He was pretty poor to average at several tournaments.

I’ve made the point before;
Great players carry their teams beyond their expectations. For Harry, that doesn’t mean winning a German Cup Final against Stuttgart, nice as that may be. With an England team that’s ranked 4, this means taking them to the WC Final and beyond. Nothing less will do.

If he wants to break Shearer's record he's going to have to come back home after next season, leave it any longer and it's going to be very hard, Haaland will probably be off soon, so this record should last a very long time.

Surely the all time Premier League top scorer is worth more than an extra Bundesliga title.

Enic should be smashing this summer window with all their might to try and get us into the top 5 next year so he can come back and play in the CL.

Yeah as much as I love Harry and he was fucking incredible for us, anyone who thinks he's been decent for England in tournaments is kidding themselves. I don't think Southgate remotely played to his strengths, which has hurt him, but the truly legendary players are able to overcome that and grab games by the scruff of the neck to carry their team over the line. Even at Bayern, Kane's failed to do that in the crunch games at the tail end of the Champions League, rarely did it for Spurs, and hasn't done it for England. There are so many semi-finals and crucial games where Kane simply hasn't shown his best.

He's going to go down as the best striker of his generation and a world class talent but if he wants to truly join the pantheon of the world's greatest ever players, he's got to make his mark at the pointy end of an international tournament or a Champions League imo.

That's harsh...he literally scored a hat trick at the weekend to win the German Cup and he scored in every knock out stage in the CL this season, I'm not sure what much else he can do.

Yeah but his goals against PSG were a pen and in the final minute when the tie was gone, while Bayern should be destroying Stuttgart in the Pokal final. Of course that final performance is a great achievement from Harry, sure, and the closest to a truly big game performance, but he's still not done it against the very best at the key moments in the biggest tournaments imo.

I am being harsh, but I'm talking about what he needs to do to become a literal legend and join the pantheon of all time greats, here. I think he's still lacking that career-defining moment.

Henry never scored in a final and he's regarded as a legend/great. Haaland will go down as one of the best and he's mr invisible in decisive matches

England probably need to win the WC for that to happen or Bayern win the CL to change the perception, I don't think it just relies on Kane...there's some unnecessary expectation placed on him when his team mates could/should be doing more.

Also he spends half his time in midfield dictating the game whilst his team mates benefit from his unselfish play, that's seemingly used against him because people want him in the box and blame him for not getting on the end of things but that is literally his strength as s player.

The goalposts always seem to get moved when it comes to Kane for some reason.

I guess it just comes from years of watching Harry fail to influence semi-finals and finals for Spurs and England. Pre-Bayern he always disappointed in those games. Maybe his time in Bayern has or will change that perception, but it's something us Spurs fans complained about Harry for years, even when we all knew he was a world class, incredible player.

Maybe you don't need to do that to become a legendary player, but I think it certainly cements it in the public consciousness.

He was unreal first leg vs PSG without scoring. I don’t know why it’s his fault they didn’t win when they conceded how many goals over two legs? The attack functioned!

Second leg he got squeezed out because PSG did everything they could to stop what happened in the first leg from happening again. And then when he found a single inch, he scored beautifully. Whilst the rest of the Bayern attack were MIA.

First leg he should’ve had minimum two assists instead of one.

Our fans needed to look closer to the actual club as opposed to Kane, our record in finals and SF's was poor pre Kane and it's not as if he was getting a plethora of chances in these games either.

I think he's really been dealt a shit hand personally but then again if he signed for City in 2021 we wouldn't be having this conversation.
