A letter from Peter Charrington, Non-Executive Chairman
10m ago

Dear Supporters,

On Sunday, despite a season that gave you so little, you gave everything. A full stadium, full voice, full belief, until the final whistle. I have thought carefully about how to begin this letter, and in the end that moment said it better than I can. It is why we owe you honesty about where we have fallen short, and what we are committed to now.

Last September, we recognised that something seismic had to change at Spurs. The Lewis family stepped in and authorised a full reset. That decision was not taken lightly, and it came later than it should have. But what has been put in motion is real, and it marks a genuine break from what had come before.

As part of that process, we discovered some uncomfortable truths. The qualities that make Spurs distinct, our football, our ambition, the connection between the team and its supporters, had been allowed to fade. Football success had not been driving our decisions. We did not have the right expertise in key roles. We did not build squads good enough to compete in the most demanding league in the world. Two 17th place finishes in a row is not acceptable, and we will not dress it up as anything other than falling well short of what this Club expects.

Since September, we have restructured leadership across the Club, with a refreshed executive and football structure. Most of this team are already in post and others will arrive in the coming weeks. The Board are committed to this leadership group and will give them the stability and support they need to run this Club in the right way.

Roberto De Zerbi is signed as Men's Head Coach for five years, a reflection of our belief in his ability and our commitment to build back to where we need to be. He is passionate, committed and positive in everything he does, and represents the kind of football and ambition that Tottenham Hotspur should stand for.

Our commitments to you are clear:

• We will build a squad, led by Roberto as Head Coach, with the right blend of experience, youth and leadership to compete at the highest levels of Premier League and European football.
• We will invest across multiple transfer windows to rebuild, balance and strengthen, with this summer representing an important first step in that work.
• We will continue to modernise our football operation, with a significant focus on raising standards across medical and performance.
• We will increase investment in the Academy to ensure that the pathway from youth football to the first team is one of the strongest in the country.
• We will build on a strong season for Spurs Women by continuing to invest in a world-class women's team, led by Martin Ho.

Since becoming Chairman, I have realised that Spurs fans are built differently. I have seen it over and over again in the last nine months, across every generation, in every conversation. Even in the darkest of seasons, you showed up and carried this team. That loyalty is not something we take for granted. It is something we are determined to be worthy of.

There has been speculation about ownership and the future direction of the Club. Let us be direct. Tottenham Hotspur is not for sale. The Lewis family are wholly committed to this Club and to this rebuild. They will provide the stability and investment needed at every level to move us forward, and they see that as a long-term responsibility, not a short-term fix.

This season fell well short of what Tottenham Hotspur demands. We must be in the fight with the best teams in this league, every season, and we are rebuilding this Club with that standard in mind.

This Club lives in the hearts of everyone who has ever loved it. It has been carried through living rooms and stands, weekends and long journeys home.

We will get back to where we belong.

A well written letter (up there with Rivaldo's to Glenn Hoddle) but it's all been nice words for so many years now.

Deliver or fuck off.

Dont care about statements & words.....

Need to see it in action.

Unless we fire Lange & Vinai for incompetence , nothing has changed

Doesn't sound like Vinai or Lange are going anywhere.

"We are commited to this leadership group"

Yep. Nice words but Lange cannot be allowed to stay. Not just because he is shit but because dual sporting directors can never work.

Maybe Vinai can survive, he does seem to have undertaken a credible internal review of our issues, though his past obviously makes all of us uncomfortable. But Lange has got to go. The transfers and issues with the medical team are prison worthy.

For everyone's mental health, just switch off and get into World Cup mode now.

Forget Spurs even exists until the Monday after the World Cup final.

Nothing will happen until then apart from the 2 free signings already agreed.

Players will be using the World Cup to market themselves.

None will commit anywhere until they've showcased themselves and try fluke a Kleberson, Djemba Djemba or Salif Diao jobby.

Season is over. Time to reboot.

Rather than be miserable over ENIC, I'm going to look forward to Spurs' two best performing players this season returning.

Luka and Mikey.

Finally get avoiding relegation confirmed and they can’t even let us have 24 hours of good vibes. Putting that out that they don’t want to sell is a real kick in the balls if actually true.

I despise ENIC. They need to leave, their time is up. Nobody is stupid enough to believe them surely?

Actions speak louder than words, have had enough words to last us a lifetime.
The fact that Vinai and Lange are still in their roles and not sacked once the final whistle went seems like a missed opportunity to show some action.
If they really appreciated the supporters, they would cut the price of tickets across the board.
Let's see what transpires during the summer.

I am probably going against the grain here but I am prepared to give them the benefit of the doubt.

The reality is the Lewis's only took proper control of the club in September. This season cannot be directly attributed to them. It has been years in the making. We finished 17th last season, this season was a continuation of that.

A mixture of poor recruitment, a focus on commercial rather than football decisions, poor culture, and poor managerial hires are all the reason for that.

You can't just come in to a club like Spurs and turn things around immediately.

I firmly believe Frank was a Levy hire, but even if the Lewis's did have input into that decision, ultimately managerial hires are a gamble. Most of them usually fail, every owner in club football makes poor manager hires at some point.

Now there is no doubt Vinai and the Lewis's kept Frank on far too long, to almost disastrous consequences, but it could also be said that tying to stand by a manager is also commendable. And if the Lewis's did leave it to Vinai to make the decision, then not getting involved in the decisions, like Levy used to do, micro managing everything is also commendable.

And if everyone should be criticsed for hiring and not sacking Frank sooner, they should also be praised for bringing in De Zerbi on a huge long term contract, that shows ambition.

Vinai isn't a football man, he oversees the whole club, so he might well be quite good at his job. Time will tell. We are also bringing in football exec's who specialise in their specific areas. This is a huge change from Levy who ran everything himself and didn't empower football specialists, he mostly ignored them.

Now obviously in Lange's case, I do think he should be sacked. But let's wait and see, maybe that is still on the cards. The new Sporting Director coming in will be a big change. if it's Kehl, well that's not exciting, but let's just see how he does before we judge.

But in terms of the Lewis's, I just don't think you can pin the blame on them for this season, it's been years in the making, it's mostly down to Levy, who Joe Lewis just let get on with it.

You can't just come in and do a huge review of the whole club, implement change, hire a bunch of new people, some who haven't even started in their roles yet, and see a huge turnaround immediately.

They have hired the best manager I think we have had since Poch, and arguably may even be better, so that's a good sign. Let's see who we sign this summer and go from there.

There is a comments section on the OS under that letter - which im surprised theyve allowed - and the same statement from all the fans is the same - Vinai and Lange out, or we dont believe what youre saying. If those two stay the club are essentially saying failure (and abject failure at that) is tolerated.

It's not a terrible letter, and I'm surprised he even acknowledged that building a competitive football squad had not been the main goal for years, but we've seen this shit before. I won't believe it until they sack Lange and change their transfer strategy.
Think Vinai is almost certainly staying based on that.

My prediction is still that Lange will be kicked to the curb at some point in the summer once the new DoF comes in. Don't think they'll make an example of him though.
Yup, Vinai is staying. Maybe this is copium, but I think he and the board will pin this season on Frank and Lange and move on Lange once a DoF is hired this summer. That gooner cunt is a problem but ultimately just a corporate suit - Lange is the bigger problem and needs to be shot into the sun ASAP.

‘’That decision was not taken lightly, and it came later than it should have‘’

This is the fuck up. Should have sold up or moved Levy on when the stadium was done. Like hiring De Zerbi it’s all so late in the day. Club has wasted 5-6 years ignoring the EL win of course.
